You can take a pistol more places than you can take a rifle. And for that reason, a pistol offers some utility.
Same applied then as it does now.
We were talking about openly fighting, not concealed carry. You know, like war stuff... =)
15 September 2011 - 05:38 PMWere I in that era I'd still go for a rifle 10 times out of 10. Pistols are fairly useless now, doubt they were much more than a showpiece back then either. The only effective thing a pistol accomplishes now is that the people in the Sand Box are scared of pistols more than anything else we've got.

QuoteThere really isn't a reliable "man stopper" in a handgun caliber.
What about magnums? I heard about some retired police officer who posted up videos testing all the calibers and their knockdown power. It was called "Bucket of Truth" or something like that, I'll have to look around for it. Dude said that aside from the magnums, everything else took two shots to bring 'em down. I still like my .45 though...
Wasn't what I was looking for but I did find this...

QuoteIn what way? Just personal preferences?
Personal preference. I carried the Beretta in Afghan and was disgusted with it. The only useful thing about it is that its the only weapon the locals truly listen to. We're supposed to be getting a replacement for it, but I seriously doubt that it will show up in my battalion anytime soon.
As far as the DE, I think its an ugly hunk of square metal that people overhype way too much. Sure I can understand large handguns, I shot my father-in-laws Redhawk last weekend in .454 Casul and I loved it. Just personally don't like the DE, but the Beretta I have legitimate problems with.
