DOOMSDAY 2: BIODREAD
A paintball scenario from Cabin Creek
and Jonathan “Old Crow” Foust
Saturday July 19th from 9:00-4:00
The young page at the Ministry of Information came running up to the Undersecretary’s desk at a pace that made it doubtful whether he would stop before impaling himself upon the corner of it. As it was he screeched to a halt before it and nearly fell onto the marble table-top. His sweaty upper lip quivered tentatively as he attempted to speak.
“What is it?!” the Undersecretary barked at last.
“Reports from Bluetopia,” the boy squeaked as he dropped a small rolled-up packet on the undersecretary’s desk.
The president squinted at the report and scowled at Undersecretary Hives. “Are they serious? They say that this corporation… Sincorp, is it? They say that Sincorp is building biological weapons of terrible effect within our borders and that means that we are in violation of the peace accords from two years ago.” He looked out his large picture window for a long moment and then back to Hives. “Do we know what he’s talking about?”
Undersecretary Hives’s eyes faltered for a moment. “We know what Sincorp is, Mr. President. It’s a research facility on the borders of Redland and Bluetopia. They get some moneys from the Redland defense budget, but we personally don’t have any oversight on their projects.”
The President frowned. “So you’re telling me that we pay them but we don’t know what we pay the FOR?” Undersecretary Hives was silent. “Okay,” he continued, “I want the military to go out there in force and recon that facility. I want to know what’s out there.”
“But Mr. President,” Hives said weakly, “won’t that be interpreted as an act of war?”
The President looked grim. “If they’re building what Bluetopia says they are… we’ve already committed an act of war.”
Meanwhile, across the border in Bluetopia, Transports were loading in preparation for an invasion. A lone commander stepped up onto the lip of the plane and called for silence.
“Men, today we are preparing to invade our old enemy, Redland. They have taken steps to build a weapon for use against our precious homeland, and we are acting according to International Law in an effort to defend our homes and our families. I know that every man here is willing to give his life for his country… but I’d prefer that we make the other poor dumb so-and-sos give their lives for theirs! Hoo-ah?”
“HOO-AH!” came the thunderous reply.
