20 December 2007 - 01:23 PMI don't see how firing underwater has anything to do with reliability- I'll bet you could get any mechanical marker to do that- even my stingray II... doesn't meant the stingray is more reliable. Water is not going to interfere with and air-powered mechanical gun that much. Electros, well obviously that will stop them, but how many of you play paintball in a pool or the ocean?
Here is a more valid test of reliablitity in a real woods situation- completely cover your marker in wet, runny mud- pack it in to every crack that's not covered by your hand, as would happen if you dove into a muddy bunker with poor form (even that nice big open one where you have to cock the A5...) and then see which one shoots.
19 December 2007 - 04:06 PMThe absence of a velocity screw on the Talon means that nobody can shoot hot, so we don't need chronos.
That just means that if one is shooting hot, there's not much you can do about it except change springs... I've seen several talons shoot over 300, especially on CO2 in hot weather. You should NEVER, EVER play without a chrono!
I like the idea, but the marker is questionable- you need one that can be easily adjusted to make sure everyone is shooting at the same FPS... isn't that the point- make the equipment identical so the only difference is player skill?
18 December 2007 - 10:54 AMFor more info on the SP-1 check out the SP-1 specific forum on PBnation-
So far it appears to be an excellent mid-range electro at a low end price.
About the SP-1 not taking Ion parts- I have heard differing opinions, that it will take Ion Bolts, or that it won't. I have one ordered, as soon as it's here I'll put my Ion's Firebolt in and see if it works. I am pretty sure that at least the L7 will not work in it, since there are posts from TechT on the SP-1 forum about making a new L7 for it.
Edit- from TechT, appears the only change is the bolt stop-
QuoteOh and we made the bolt stop different for the VIBE AND SP-1. Because you can not adjust the dwell we have modified the bolt stop so that the bolt conserves air with each shot
15 December 2007 - 01:36 PMYeah the mud is a big deal- I've munched up the insides of one open bolt marker w/ mud and dirt from sliding into wet bunkers on my face... - Another reason for the Ion- completely enclosed.
15 December 2007 - 01:30 PMummm... yeah....???? This is just the press release from Smart Parts about the XE- nothing new here.
