Topics I've Started

  1. On the Road

    24 February 2009 - 03:29 PM

Well, today at school I found out that a classmate of mine has decided to go "On the Road." "On the Road," in case you don't know, is a novel by Jack Kerouac about his adventures while going on cross country road trips.

Apparently, a kid at my school decided to do the same thing, and is currently somewhere in the mid west.

The neat thing, and the reason why i posted this, is because he is documenting his travels in a blog. I don't think I will post it, because of some foul language, but if you want the link just pm me. Maybe if a mod okay's it I will.

But basically, he got fed up with living in my lovely town, and took off. He had been expelled last year, i think for selling pirated movies. The guy is brilliant, very smart, just doesn't try very hard. He says he is traveling to California, to discover himself in a Kerouac-or-Holden-Caulfield-esque fashion.

Scary part is i just read over his first entry again and he describes what he brought with him, "an undisclosed length of nylon rope whose purpose will reveal itself when the time comes." That part is worrying me a bit.

Anyhow, just hope you guys could keep this kid in your prayers, we're all worried about him. And what do you think of this?
  2. SKA

Anyone here into Ska? I just got tickets to see Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto and another band play at the end of January. Just thought I'd ask to see if there are any other fans here.

  5. Gun Control

    30 October 2008 - 05:38 PM

Some of you may remember a topic a while back about a gun show with this video: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=4f7wTMnWbqQ
I found out about this "machine gun shoot" through that topic, and because it was local to me I figured I would go this year. I made plans in the early spring to go with some friends and check it out. We, of course, completely forgot about going. Now, I am thankful that I didn't go, or else I may have witnessed this:
    http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/10/27/boy.s...ef=mpstoryemail
For those who don't want to spend the time reading the short article, it is about an 8-year-old kid that went to the aforementioned gun show, and shot an automatic Uzi. The recoil caused the barrel to be propelled upwards, and ended in the child shooting himself in the head. The kid died at the hospital.

So, I just thought I would ask a few questions.

What do you think should have been done to prevent this from happening?

What do you think about gun control?

Massachusetts already has strict laws on gun control. What do you think will happen to the laws already in place, will they get even stricter?
