After reading all the post-event discussion and having a chance to discuss things with teammates and other players that were at the event, I figured I would give my thoughts on this event. Before now, the last time Team GDR was at Blanding was for the September 2008 scenario. So when I draw comparisons in my head, I'm thinking about that past event as well as others throughout the state.

Overall, my feelings about this event were mixed. On the plus side, the venue itself is amazing, and the presence of multiple tanks is also a very cool aspect of scenarios run here that I really enjoy. Attendance was also much better than I thought it would be which was a welcome surprise. I was also honored to be a blue team XO under Tippy, and had a fantastic time in that role. The night game was also a highlight for me, and everyone on Team GDR really enjoyed that aspect of the event as well.

On the negative side, the aforementioned comments on the reffing situation pretty much sum up my thoughts on that subject and seemed to have a significant effect on the game. I was also annoyed by the team balancing issues that clearly favored the red team, hot guns shooting insanely far, cold food, and the fact that I couldn't pay for the event by credit card.

There are always things that can be improved upon at events like this one, but overall I had a good time and I'm glad we went.

Can you expound upon that a little more then saying..."What was previously said"?

I think he was agreeing with my previous statement that you have already commented on. It is a few pages/posts ago.

    Hey Blue Thunder,
Does that nipple cover have “Proudly sponsored by XTC” on it? If so, I think it belongs to the front man for Team Signal20. He says he could describe it and is missing one from the campsite.

I wrote a comment yesterday regarding the specific issues I had with the game. Those few items did not make it a bad game for me. I had a great time and I want to also point out some very good reffing that I saw. I had some Ref's come up to me and tell me that I had been hit in spots I could not see. I also had Ref's come up to me right away when I called for a paint check. Any Ref that was out there had a hard time no matter what anyone says. I was a ref in South Carolina and I know how it was. I may have even hit a few Ref's with paint. (sorry)
The one Ref that I can remember that was very on top of it was the one with the spike hat and the tail. He was on top of anything I asked or pointed out. He also chased down someone leaving the field without a barrel cover. That is what a good ref is to do.
I commend all the players, ref's, promoters, generals, and staff. I myself investigated the rumor about Blanding being closed by calling and speaking to someone at "S2 Institute Camp Blanding" before Joe sent out the statement and I was told the same thing Joe got in his e-mail.

Joe don't let those who are upset get you down. Even though I was on the Blue side and was on the receiving end of hot shots, yellow paint, felt the reffing and paint could have been better, I had a great time. I don't know how any one can complain it was Blanding. You can't have a bad time at Blanding. I hope there will be someone who will host another event there this year. On another note I did find an air tank fill nipple cover. If you lost one and can describe it and tell me where I found it I will mail it to you. Please send me a personal message do not reply to this. If it isn't claimed I will give it away to someone I know who needs one.

I'm curious as to how the reffing could have been better.

I have to agree with Blue Lightning and say that the reffing could have been better. I will give specific examples.
    1. When you have paintball percing paint pod lids and cracking them from a distance greater than 40'
    2. When you have paint being shot from the corner window from building 15B and hitting players 30' from the Blue base and blue members can't reach the red team members.
    3. When you have a reffing staff that does not have hand held chronographs on the playing field until the second day of play.
    4. When you tell a ref that the opposite team is shooting "Yellow" paint with the evidence on your marker and they say "it is just faded orange."
    5. When you tell the ref to watch a law before you launch it at a opposite team tank and it hits but says "it now takes two hits." (Don't know if rules changed the second day)

With that being said, I will also tell you that the reffing staff a good job. There were just a few things that needed to be changed and I don't think it was any one Ref or event during play.

What color paint were you guys shooting?

I've heard bad things - no more Blanding, ever!

that's what i am hearing tooo....idiot promoter used orange paint supposedly...who the BOINK uses orange paint anymore. Tourneys proved it stains like no tomorrow years ago, hence why they went away from it. If this is true and blanding is closed to paintballers from now on because of this i will be pissed.

They did use orange paint. The brands were Valken (clear shell/orange fill) and Graffiti (gold&purple shell/orange fill). Also flying around was yellow paint from the red team. The reason I know that is because one of the "Team Signal20" guys I ride with got hit from it. You can go to pbjunkie.com and see the pics from the weekend.
