  1. ATF approved my silencer

    Hi,

I’m a new member of this forum and I wanted to share a little information you may find interesting regarding paintball silencers. For the record I ran this information by Puzuma before posting here.

I recently received a letter from the ATF which has made a determination that the paintball "silencer" I submitted to them "...IS NOT a firearm muffler or firearm silencer as defined".

A little background; I sent them a length of fiberglass pipe insulation. More specifically it is designed for use with 1/2-inch pipe. It's inside diameter is .84-inches, has a wall thickness of 1-inch and has a white flexible foil lined paintable jacket on the outside. It just happens to be a tight fit over the stock barrel of my Autococker, and fits just as well on the J&J 2-piece barrel that I use on that marker. The key here is that I picked up a product that I already had in my garage and used it as-is to silence my marker.

More good news is that this material is very common in large buildings and it's cheap! A 3 foot long stick cost me about eight dollars. Cut in half this would make two "silencers".

Important note; Don't buy the foam kind they sell at all the home improvement stores, it doesn't work. The fiberglass kind is a little harder to find but you should be able to find it in any large city. Think commercial building supplies.

Because many of you will be skeptical about the validity of this posting I have scanned copies of my letter from the ATF attached. You can find the rest of my correspondence with the ATF as well as some pictures at http://www.paintball.bwalter.net
look under “silencer” on the left side.

    Thanks
