12 October 2007 - 04:38 AMI use Hoppes no. 9. Tippmann does recommend using it, and it works great.

QuoteI read some horror stories about getting flammable oil in the ASA with an HPA tank. Do I not need to worry about that if I use synthetic oil? I should dig up the link, again.
That's referring to putting oil in the fill nipple of you HPA tank (never do it). Putting oil in the ASA of you marker is fine, and a good way to oil the internals a bit without stripping everything down.
By the way I'm glad for this post, you just gave me a great idea for an article to work on for my blog (maybe even a series of them). Have fun and ask lots of questions.
09 October 2007 - 02:55 PMFirst thing you should do is get to know how it goes together so you can strip it and putit back together. It is probably loaded with grease if you just got it so strip it clean it and re oil it with a little bit of gun oil.
Tippmanns are pretty easy to maintain otherwise, they tend to just work (even if you neglect them). It's not a bad idea to clean each time you use it (I used to but it is a pain on th 98, especially after all the mods I put on mine). I usually just strip it and clean it if I see that I got paint or some other gunk in the reciever.
I ended up having to put a stronger seer spring in mine, the bolt will where down a bit and when it does the seer may not catch properly with stock spring. Just a thought, you may not have that problem but I did.
Just keep in mind that Tippmann tech support is always there too. They are great, if something doesn't work properly (like my bolt not catching) they will send you replacement parts for free, keep the number handy and don't be afraid to call and ask for help.
02 October 2007 - 11:14 AMI have a rocket cock on mine, it will sound quieter from your perspective, but to anyone else; the sound projecting out the barrel will be exactly the same. It is still very nice to have though, it works great for keeping crap from the woods (or paint) out of your gun. They're not that expensive, so I would definitely recommend one.
