Two Bridgeport residents were arrested early Thursday after they allegedly fired a paintball gun at Westport police while riding in a car that had been reported stolen from Fairfield.
Jaret Ortiz, age unavailable, of Lenox Avenue, and Octavio Real, age unavailable, of North Avenue, are each charged with assault with a firearm, assault on a peace officer, third-degree larceny, first-degree criminal trover, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal trespass.
Real, the driver, was also issued a misdemeanor summons for four motor vehicle charges for an appearance April 21 in Norwalk Superior Court.
Westport police said Officer Richard Bagley stopped a vehicle at Post Road West and Sylvan Road for an equipment violation about 2:30 a.m. As the officer approached the vehicle, the rear hatch sprung open and a man armed with what appeared to be a rifle began firing at Bagley, police said. He was struck several times with some sort of liquid-filled projectile as he dove for cover, and the vehicle sped off.
The suspects fled into Norwalk, with headlights off and speeding, before crashing into a stone wall in Norwalk, police said. State Police used a dog to locate the suspects 90 minutes later, police said.
Their bonds and court dates were unavailable Thursday.

Xtreme Paintball/Anythingxtreme.com is closed and is filing bankruptcy
Like all the paintball companies, we have been struggling for a few years to adjust to the drop in paintball sales. We have cut salaries, laid off employees, downsized the warehouse, hired consultants and done whatever else we could to survive.
We have had no employees to answer the phones or emails for a couple of weeks and were still trying to get funds released from our charge card processor. They had given us an agreement to sign on 2/5 to release the funds, but it is too late for us to continue.
We will be posting any necessary legal information later when we get it.
For now, if you have an outstanding order, you can do a charge card dispute (chargeback) through your card company and they should refund the money to your account. We are monitoring the chargebacks that our processor presents to us and acknowledging that you should be refunded in cases where the order wasn't shipped. If it was shipped, we are providing them with the tracking number.
