28 March 2009 - 06:38 PMI don't actually know how big the Holiday Lake area is. We didn't scout it to deep, there is a deep creek running on the west side and a natural shallow ravine on the east side of the area we were in. It is a leisurely ten minute walk from south to north, and there is plenty of natural cover from downed trees.
Ok, did some checking, it is approx. 500-600 yards north-south and 400-500 yards east-west. Now this is only a small piece of the overall area which is approx 75% of a hectare. A lot of land, and we have looked at a minute portion of it.
So how do you live in an area and not know what is around you? lol
28 March 2009 - 02:20 PMFound this spot near Holiday Lake, we have the ok to use. Hope to get one possibly two out of it this season.
Now keep in mind, phone pix, not the greatest. And this is from one spot just rotating, I would like to get out there again to get some better ones.
Old growth timber with the usual briar patches, but looks to be about it. Too much canopy to get a whole lot of green to come up. Can't wait to see it in mid summer!
We also just got 11 acres near Rock Creek to use too. Not really the ideal layout, but we will at least try it out, who knows, we might end up liking it!
28 March 2009 - 06:12 AMMel, how much land are you looking for? And, what type for that matter? Parking will need to be addressed I assume?
26 March 2009 - 09:57 PMI gotta agree with Kev on this one. I am in no way putting AJ's down, I have played there many a time. But as it stands, we have our own field, and have came up with guidelines that fit our style of play. The only thing we have to pay for is paint. AJ's is our standby if we can't get a good head count, or it's a spur of the moment thing.
It is unfortunate that there are no real big draw games around here. I know AJ's is working on that one, and it is great. I hope they turn out well. Getting big attractions in Iowa has been an issue for a long long while. I don't know what the magic word is to get them to stick around.
Luckily, there are a handful of teams (I use that term loosely) in the area that are willing to coordinate with others to get together and make a day of fun. I have met some really good people in the last few years, and hope to meet more in the coming years. Every one of us has our reasons, good or bad, for playing here or there. Money, time, distance, family all come into consideration. I would love to head down to Oklahoma and play at any one of the scenarios that have made it big. Not going to happen anytime soon, so I keep on with the brothers that have made paintballing a truly fantastic time.
15 October 2008 - 01:16 PMNot a big deal Hub, it's really my fault anyways. I didn't make myself known as out so you had no idea if I was in. I just love to throw poo, besides, if I can't take it why would I play? Ok, I just reread your message, you were referring to early on, ain't no way I would have fired at you. When you have three people from three different sides, it's kinda hard not to get bunkered. Like with Kevin, I knew I was out, no point in trying to deny it. Only time I get TINKLEy is when I call out and still get fired upon. All in the name of fun!!
