I just noticed that the safety doesn't engage on this gun. I'm 99% sure that's just because I did something wrong when I reassembled the gun after having the front grip milled, and painting it. The only other thing that could cause it would be the new paint job is thicker and preventing it from being pushed in. I'll look it over and see if it's from when I assembled the gun.
If someone just wants the gun, but doesn't need all the other stuff. I'll do $75+shipping from the gun, barrel, and hopper.
Tippmann 98 Custom Pro(gun, barrel,hopper,pod holster,camos) - $95+shipping
-Milled front grip. Replaced with Picatinny rail.
-Sand blasted, primered, and painted Rust-O-Leum Hammered Black
-Empire Reloader 2 electronic hopper
-Lapco 14" Bigshot Barrel
-20oz OR 12oz(with buttplate)-choose one. 3 tanks pictured, but that'd be a lot of weight for shipping. If local you can have all 'em.
-Special Ops Paintball 2-pod leg holster (with pods) in Crye Multicam (has paintball stain on back&inside, not visible when wearing)
-Three extra pods (two generic, one SpecOps)
-Barrel sleeve, rubber squeegee, and cloth squeegee.
-Instruction manual/schematic for gun + parts kit.
I also have matching Tru-Spec Crye Licensed MultiCam pants and jacket. I'll throw these in for $40 extra(orig. $150). The jacket is basically new, only worn once. The pants have only been worn a few times, but they have a small paintball stain on one leg(it's light and doesn't stand out).
I have a set of Digital ACU pants, jacket, and tshirt. I'll throw these in for an extra $20.
If you have any questions, offers..let me know! Looking to get rid of this sooner rather than later.
08 November 2008 - 02:24 AMI already have a thread about the milling and everything going on, but I figured I'd post up a new one for the paint specifically; both to show the progress and to ask a few questions. Unfortunately I took these pictures with my camera phone because I did all of this at work where I didn't have a camera handy, so the pictures aren't that great.
To start off with I sandblasted the gun down to the bare metal. This worked out great, but it did have one down side. The sandblasting did eat away at the JBWeld epoxy I used to fill the hole that was left after milling the front grip off of the 98CP.
Once I had the completely sandblasted the gun I wiped it down with mineral spirits to clean it up some. Then I sprayed it with a can of Rust-O-Leum primer.
It says after spraying the primer you can lay down a top coat in just minutes, but I did wait about an hour or two before I started spraying the topcoat. For this I used Rust-O-Leum Hammered black finish.
I'm currently letting it dry the 48hour period it says on the can. Monday I'll be using a can of Krylon clear coat that I had lying around.
Now.. onto the questions!
I really like the Rust-O-Leum hammered paint, but it's more of a dark grey in color. Something I would describe as gunmetal I guess. I was really wanting just a black finish, but with some texture like the hammered. Now I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and lay down the clear coat, or sandblast it again and start over using just a regular black spray.
I think with the black grips, black BigShot barrel, and black picatinny rail that the hammered finish just looks out of place.
What seems to be a pretty popular paint for you DIY'ers on a budget? Krylon or Rust-O-Leum? I'm looking at just buying a flat black, or maybe a tan or OD color if I decide not to keep the hammered finish.
Also what clear coats do you find work fairly well(something that isn't going to cost over $10/can)?
I'll post up some finished pictures once I'm done!
08 March 2008 - 08:18 PMI seen how good the gun in your sig turned out, and I'd really like to have my 98 painted up in Multicam.
How much, and about how long does it take?
Here's everything I'd want painted:
Tippmann 98 receiver halves
Lapco BigShot barrel
Empire Reload hopper
Fobus folding front grip
SpecOps air-thru Wire Stock
I've milled off the front grip, and I was just going to paint it black... but yeah Multicam would look a lot better!
29 February 2008 - 12:58 PMSo as the title states, I milled off the front grip on my Custom Pro while I was at work last night. Turned out really good. I only milled off the bottom, I didn't mill off the sides where it's wider where the front grip is. I was going to wait to see how wide the rails are before I do that.
The bottom of the rail is appx. 3/4" wide, and 4 1/16" long. Which rail would be the perfect width? I could cut it to length..
I want to put an air-thru commando stock on it, and then a folding front grip on the rail.
I'll keep this thread updated with photos as I go along, but it'll be a slow process since I'm low on funds! The commando stock will be the last thing I get because I'm going to wait until I switch to a new tank to run a remote. I'll be sticking with my 7 and 12oz tanks with butt plates for now.
