06 January 2008 - 04:16 PMProblem: A backhoe weighing 8 tons is on top of a flatbed trailer heading east on Interstate 70 near Hays, Kansas The extended shovel arm is made of hardened refined steel and the approaching overpass is made of commercial-grade concrete, reinforced with 1 1/2 inch steel rebar spaced at 6 inch intervals in a criss-cross pattern layered with 1 foot vertical spacing.
Solve: When the shovel arm hits the overpass, how fast does the trailer with the backhoe have to be going to slice the bridge in half? (Assume no headwind and no braking by the driver who is oblivious of the situation . . )
Extra Credit: Solve for the time and distance required for the entire rig to come to a complete stop after hitting the overpass at the speed calculated above .
Answer: Scroll down........
Answer - It doesn't really matter... The point is that the trucking company just bought themselves a bridge .
23 September 2007 - 10:57 AMGot this from my paper:
LOS ANGELES| A man accused of stealing three endangered iguanas from a nature preserve in Fiji and smuggling them into the United States in his prosthetic leg has been indicted.
The charge against Jereme James, 33, carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
Prosecutors say James stole the Fiji Island banded iguanas in 2002 and brought them to the U.S. by hiding them in a compartment he constructed in his prosthetic leg.
i laugh. haha. this is certainly odd, isn't it?
02 September 2007 - 11:37 AMwell, this decision has been bothering me forever. i seem to have this thing whenever i need to make a big decision (i must have Decidophobia)
i bought a project car a while ago. it's a 1985 Chevy Camaro Z28, 305. it's not the t-top model (thank god, you'll see why)
the only engine problem i had to fix was the fuel pump (which was a pain in the butt, the manual makes it sound so easy, )
the rest is mostly interior and cosmetic
carpet, paint (decided to go with gloss balck for the body, and charcoal for the body kit), Z28 stripes for the side (black -> charcoal), rear window louvres, weatherstriping (thank god its not a t-top, or else i would pay an extra $250!), decals and emblems, and other small interior accessories.
total estimated cost - $1,000 to $1,500
but, on the other hand, i have always wanted a automag. maybe a tac-one, i don't know
if you choose automag, please tell me which one and why, and what else i should get with it (i am such a mag noob )
