30 January 2008 - 01:27 AMWhat's the fun in it if they put it somewhere they know it won't hit. Not a very exciting thing to gamble on a sure thing.
No, they put it where NASA said it was most likely to hit (it was the middle of one of the oceans), but even then NASA can't calc the exact spot it'll land. Really there wasn't a great chance, but it was a good publicity deal (bad if it actually hit). It's like shooting blind, you're aiming in the general direction, but it's doubtful you'll actually hit someone, ya?
Here's the first article I found on the old one. I guess it was the space station Mir that a 40x40 foot target was set out for about 7 years ago now. Not sure by how far they missed though...
29 January 2008 - 03:35 PMRemember some years ago when Taco Bell (or was it Sony via Playstation) set out a huge target in the ocean for a falling satellite to hit, and if it did hit the target everyone in the country would get a free meal from Taco Bell? Different situation being that it was a calculated and safe re-entry/landing, but if they figure out approximately where it's going to land some company should try that again. It was a good idea and great publicity with very little risk of it actually hitting the target.

25 November 2007 - 08:10 PMIn light of JersyPaint's rant over people leaving this forum because of the staff being alleged 'nazis', I got the idea for this poll.
Note that I know all my warns WERE justified, and I deserved what I got over the past year I've been here, so this is in no way a shot at the staff of this forum.
So, with that said, be a good sport about it and have fun at the polls.
Comparatively? Whoever JerseyPaint is, is right... They've always been tight on security, but have progressively become worse... It was one of the main factors in why I disapeared...
Where ever his rant is though, I hope someone called Goodwin's law on him.
As for my one warning? I had already left the board for some time, and sig rules changed... By the time I checked back after 6 or so months I had a 10% warning... Meh, I didn't think it was deserved, but whatever...
