Topics I've Started
24 January 2011 - 09:59 PMAs many of you might know, I work for the DOC/SRT and am in constant contact in the LE circles.
I got this in an email today, put it through Snopes. They, along with LE determined it to be a real and continuing threat. It's kind of useless to redact out the ingredients, due to the investigative nature of people but the quantities of ingredients are not present in this article:
The Email I received:
Straight from Davidson County Sheriff´┐Żs office:
Kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in soda bottles and
Capping it up - leaving it on lawns. When you go to pick up the trash,
And the bottle is shaken just a little - in about 30 seconds or less it
Builds up a gas and explodes with enough force to remove some of your
Extremities. The liquid that comes out is boiling hot as well.
Don't pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in
The gutter, etc.
Pay attention to this.
1. A plastic bottle with a cap.
2. A little Drano.
3. A little water..
4. A small piece of foil.
5. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!!
No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.
People are finding these "bombs" in mailboxes and in their yards, just
Waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the trash. But, you'll never make it!!! It takes about 30 seconds to blow after you move the thing.
DO NOT TOUCH RANDOM BOTTLES PLACED ANYWHERE YOU DIDN'T PUT THEM YOURSELVES.
It's really sad that kids are so bored they have to come up with this kind of crap. Guess baseball is out anymore...
22 December 2010 - 05:12 PMLet me tell you, I have a newfound respect for blade makers and machinists.
I started this Day Wear Scottish Dirk project some time ago but I didn't like the "end result" so I decided to "make it right"......
I started out with a 2" x 24" hunk of 1/4" bar stock and shaped it down but didn't like the point. I even handled it with wood but again...I don't like the handle.
So I decided to change it. I put a longer edge on the blade [old edge was too "short"], made a "false edge" that didn't previously exist but could still use some work and now have a large enough piece of antler for the handle.
...and by the way, all this was done with a common FILE  .....
1/4" thickness, false edge at the furthest end from you:
Full edge. It looks dark, almost like a "false edge' but trust me...she's sharp:
The antler I got for the handle:
Can I tell you how stiff and sore my right arm is??? However, I'm much happier with how this is turning out than what it looked like before.

26 September 2010 - 11:22 PM...I had a FANTASTIC weekend and here are the pics to prove it -----
Me...so you know who you are looking for in the rest of them. Bald guy, to the left of our Drum Major [red sash]:
Day 1 - Piping in the Haggis - City of Bethlehem Pipes and Drums
Massed bands, Day 2
[The Counter-March...means the "turn-around"]
Was a little warmer than normal...hit a high of 80*F on Friday but Saturday had a niiiiiiiiice breeze. Sunday had less wind and was a bit more humid. Made for a "saucey" feeling all day long ::bleh::
