has everyone forgotten the fact that when paintball first started...all we had was shop glasses??

Is it a good idea? No. The shop glasses sucked...but we also made every effort NOT to goggle-shot the players either. I doubt that even wrist-rockets are as accurate as most markers.

That's my $0.02

Its a valid point, but in those days the guns didnt fire so fast or so easily. I remember the cheesey little shop-like goggles that came in the box with my first Splatmaster...they were fine for the times, but I woulndt be caught wearing them on a field nowdays.

Dude, paintball first originated with indians who would put berries in their blowguns and shoot them at each other for sport. They didn't have any face protection. (But berries don't hurt)

I think contacting them and letting them know that the general paintball junky does not approve of what they are doing is a good idea. If they know that it is unacceptable and that they are being looked down on for it than they are more likely to change what they are doing. :P

In those same shop glasses and ski goggles days people got shot in the face, people had their goggles shattered, and people had serious injusries that caused face masks to become an essential part of paintball. If the shop glasses had been sufficient than they would still be worn today and people wouldn't be dropping close to $100 on a facemask. Sling shots can be just as accurate as a paintball marker if they are used correctly, I've played paintball with slingshots before, and I DEFFINATELY wore a full face mask.

Sounds valid, but I don't think so. I KNOW for a fact that it was originally used for marking cattle and trees.

Yes, actual markers were used then. I don't know if the indian bit is true or not, but I can just imagine it, lol.

Part of the point is being missed here.

Back in the earliest days of paintball, there were no approved safety goggles designed for paintball so we did what we could to be safe as the technology would allow.

These guys are "Ignoreing" currently avalible, industry standard, safety equipment designed for the purpose.

There is a big difference.

No, you have me mistaken. What I meant was that the basic SPORT of paintball originated with the indians.

Ok, let me give you a SCARY video.

S.I. Propaganda 001

Right around 0:40, notice the big pink splat NEXT TO THIS GUYS EYE?!?!? His goggles are a mesh shield, possibly a plexi upper part. 2:49 you can see the masks better, and they look like they're just metal mesh formed to be away from the face slightly. We tried to talk sense into them a long time ago, they're convinced they're 100% safe.

But then again, the team name is "Slightly Intoxicated"...

Also note..they never had any BBD's on, not even plugs!

Slingshots may be safe from an FPS standpoint. It's just too easy for some fool punk to pick up a rock for my comfort.

I would not play SP with people I don't trust.

Yeah, I find that very hard to belive. I doubt that paintball evolved from berries and blowguns. Thats like saying Boxing was invented when some native punched some other native in the face.

Of course, for all I know, maybe thats how it happened...
