Did you use that cloth tape, thats not real duct tape. You should have done cardboard chest and back protector ( also just to lay a base down) Use regular silver duct tape first. Do one layer going vertical, then one horizontal and repeat. Do it till its mad thick. Then go over with camo tape. That should be strong enough.

1 question why did you attempt to make armor out of duct tape? Love the concept though. You just need to use more tape, much more. From personal experience I found duct tape can be used for anything. I have yet to build a raft out of it though, but I have made a hammock. I think I might try your vest idea, six rolls should be enough... 1 or 2 for the frame and the rest for the padding, I'll design it just like a Kevlar vest. I might even make a matching hat.

cammo duct tape wont stay cammo for long (but the green it leaves is better than that shiney grey color)

How would you expect to crawl in the dirt without shredding it? ?

Hey, you know what would be crazy? A replica Broadsword/Recon vest made out of duct tape and cardboard (or something else). I will send one (1) shiny penny to the person who makes one!
