i dont get why they dont just buy a darn mask, some arent that expensive :P

The expensive ones usually arn't good quality. And the people who use that stuff usually don't know any better. But I'm sure if they did "most" people would try to get a real mask.

You mean the cheap ones arn't good the expensive ones like profilers are good.
but still it's better than a towel ;)

I've seen a guy wear an airsoft mask with clear package tape over the cage of the mask so paint wouldn't get in his eyes.

Wow, some people just dont think before they play. Its people like them that degrade our sport when we hear that some kid in Cali shot his eye out because he wasent thinking.

I have played with kids that own paintball masks, but when they charge they rip them off and run straight at the people without anything covering their face!

LMS, do your friends suffer from any metal illness or disease that causes them to risk their precious eyesight in the name of nothing?

You should ALWAYS wear your mask, end of story.

On our team we have one guy who wears a riot helmet with a plexiglass shield, I've been wanting to say something to him for awhile, I don't know why I haven't yet.

The walkons we always play against there is one guy with a pump who has been playing paintball since it first started, he wears desert goggles, people say stuff to him, but he makes it abundantly clear to those around him that he is fully aware of the dangers, and he accepts them openly.

I just try to not aim for dudes head.

Just remember when this sport first started the only safety device was shop glasses. There were no barrel blocking devices. There was no such thing as a chronograph. The original paintgun was actually used by the forrestry to mark trees to cut down and by ranchers to mark cattle. The paint was oil based and left pretty nasty stains.

I was born about a month after the very first game in New Hampshire, but I know all this from reading about the history of our sport. The people who show up with gas masks, riot helmets, motorcylce helmets, and whatever else to cover their face and eyes are at least smart enough to know that those need to be covered. It's their first game so they don't know any better. How much did you know when you first showed up at your field? If you happen to see something crazy like that commend them for being smart enough to know to cover their face and eyes, but then be polite about letting them know the error of their thinking.

Also keep in mind that if someone shows up in shop glasses for a day of play they might have played back in the 80's. They might have left the sport for a whatever reason and are just now deciding to get back into it.

One of my friends has used ski goggles and a bandanna to cover his nose. Now I have 2 extra masks, so generally stupid stuff like that doesn't happen with us.

shop glasses, gas masks, visored helmets, 3 layers of ski masks, and a few more odd things have been witnessed by me.

Of course i make it a mission to explain to these people what is wrong with their line of thinking.

My story seems to have a way of making it simple to do.
(side note, that dang thread of mine keeps getting me PM's about how I changed someones mind about goggle safty)

Hey 1-i, ever think about posting a picture of your eye? I think the visual might drive the message home. Just a thought.

If I recall he was asked this in his "medical folder" thread and the problem has to do with it not showing up on film due to a dark eyecolor. Maybe it would be possible with a flash, but knowing he cant focus out light . . . I wouldnt ask him to do that personally
