You can also do the same thing more cheaply by just finding cups that fit inside the barrel, but we used the cardboard sabot method in order to make bigger canisters to fit a whole 100 paintballs.

Many fields are outlawing multiple-projectile rounds due to potential safety concerns. You should consult your local field first to see if there are any special rules (ex- indirect fire only, different velocity rating, if it's even allowed, etc.)

As Thalion said, be careful with "buckshot" rounds.
Do NOT glue or stick paintballs together! It could potentially knock a mask off or cause serious injury...

buy 20 pods of heavy metal
put a hole in the pod (be creative)
tie a string to the pod
when ready unwrap your pod, remove lid, tie to launcher, load, shoot
the pods (or any pods) are about 2" in diameter
you might want to put the hole in the bottom of the pod so you get all of the paint in the air and it doesnt just do a u-turn and paint you!
experiment with different pods, toilet paper, paper towels, rubber bands, ect. but launch the paint from the pod.
