You dont have to use cotter pins. Truth be told, they can get a bit expensive to buy. Someone else on here came up with a great idea to use hair pins (aka bobby-pins). I think its a great idea, because you will lose these things when youre playing with them. And bobby pins are dirt cheap and its not going to be the end of the world if you lose one.

Lethalpanther are you the one with the youttube video theres a video dispalying the exact same grenades. Also thanks Viper 72 i couldn't find a syringe but that weed killer pump is greta i was just looking at mine earlier wondering what i could use it for.

Glad that worked out for you. Just be sure to wash that thing out before you make a grenades with it! Wouldn't want any weed killer getting stirred into the mix now would we.... or would we...?!

My head is bloodied, but unbowed."

Just a little tip- Don't fill the grenades up to the fold where the pin goes. I had one blow up on me when that happened. I was completely covered in green/yellow paint.

I read this post when it first came up and it was a great idea, I tried it. I made two grenades so far with the materials and they turned out pretty great. One popped on me from doing it wrong, make sure to follow the directions right. ;)

I just wanted to say this thread is made of win. Pure win. I'll be making a batch sometime within the next couple of weeks. Thanks for putting this out here for all of us!

I dont have time to look through 38 pages of this thread, but incase no one has mentioned, I'm sure you could make an easy claymore from that. when ready to use, tie a fishing line to the washer and then tie it up like a tripwire mine. Then just remove the pin when it is set. Don't make it so tight that it stretches and yanks the washer off as soon as you pull the pin though

I made a huge bach. Of these paint grenades (24). I've modified it a bit do to available materials but its generaly the same. I love them because they can be easily refilled if they don't pop. Sometimes they pop like a balloon and that just makes them usless and sometimes the washer hasnt gone off but i must say they are cheap and effective. I also made one into a briefcase bomb. Where you pulled the pin out of the side to arm the bomb and then when the other team opens it to disarm the bomb the washer is pulled off by a stirng ties to the lid and a nice stream of paint gushes over the opener. Its a good ending to the game. Thanks for the paintgrenade recipe.

Your right they tend to pop like a balloon if they hit a hard surface for one, and two, if that washer is on too tight. Once I had the washer on too tight though and it bounced and didn't go off or pop. I threw it again and it was about the most beautiful working grenade I ever saw go off. it spun several times

I'll share my little tidbit of wisdom, a thicker, stickier paint can be made using corn starch (or flour, less effective) boiled in water till it's soupy and slightly jello like. You need very little starch. For the pigment, I struggled for a long time on that question until it hit me taking a poo one day: MARKING CHALK! The kind you buy for marking strings for construction, you know, the ones you snap and it makes a little dust cloud and a blue line. It wouldn't dissolve into the jelly like most everything else I tried and it comes in several bright colors (orange, yellow, green, blue, white), plus it's cheap. Haven't had the chance to test it out, though.

Hey, it's Mr. Xanthum gum guy again. I have about 10 pages to check up on, but I haven't paintballed or been on here since july of 07.

All my unused grenades never spring a leak and are holding up very well. I did have one that had a washer on it was a 1/16th of an inch too big and I kept that one in a plastic bag. It went off sometime over the summer.

I need to work on a tempra based paint and/or order that PEG stuff.

I'm going to go read up on the last 18 months of posts to see what you guys have come up with. Mucho props to CHOPPA because I became very feared on my local field because they allowed grenades and I sold a bunch to kids for $2 a pop. Because they are reuseable, The cost of the casing was about $1.36 each, but the cost to refill them was only about 15 cents. I must have resold the same 10 grenades all summer and made about 1500% return on investment.

hey big props for this huge thread on grenades ive learned so much, but instead of xanthun gum i tried fruit pectin(sure jell) its used for jams, it worked just like x gum only more readily availible you can get it at you local grocery store, also where do i find mint extract, we should make an official fill recipe all in order or recipes all in order so they are easy to find. B)

Dude, that's an awesome idea. I think I'm going to use that for my 2.0 mix. Even with a good blender, the gum still won't fully mix.

Buy the latex tubing online. It's much cheaper and better quality than the tubing found at hardware stores.
