I have once thought about the roll of "BATTLE REFS", And have once tried it. I used my Tac-8 to beam an area close to someone (I/E a Bunker) who was hit but didnt pay attention to me yelling at them. This worked quite well and got there attention. But I would not use it to fire and purposely hit someone. I have taken many hits to the front of my vest, and the pods make it hard to fill a hit. I would hate to have someone unload on me because I never realized I was hit.

I more use the "BATTLE REF" roll as a "BATTLE PHOTOG". I wear an orange Vest with PHOTOG on the back of it. If Im purposely shot, I shoot back.

.... or tackle them, depending on the circumstances.

well if a ref starts shooting at a player with a marker(not a paintball pistol) what happens if they shoot back at the ref (thats you)?

I have to agree with goldsmith. I have seen many a ref do this when I was a yong gun (13) and would get caught up in the game. Im now a little older :) and a little more observent of my surroundings. But i completly agree with him and the way he dose it.

BTW goldsmith, You go right ahead and toot your own horn!!!

How about a tazer to incapacitate a violent player that won't stop firing after being called out.

players playing on and not hearing refs is a problem that has been around since the start. tagging the player with a pistol has been tryed and rejected it just spreads bad feelings. The best way is to go into the fray and pull them out. This is why refs end up with more welts then players. Good back up by the field operators and other refs help to solve any problems.
Its simple I saw the hit,
Your out!!

I need a job with more vacation time

I said this in the other thread...The refs around here carry markers to help remind players who are hit to get off the field...If the player is playing on...the ref shoots their shins a few times...

-Tenacious

that's pretty pathetic that your surronding players have to be warned with an actual marker to play right if im ever in your area ill make sure not to paintball there

secondly, in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM should a ref shoot a player handle it like an adult not some 6 year old kid in a temper tantrum.

Yes that would really scare everyone if a ref had a pistol and started to shoot people. O wait, they only have 10 rounds. And that would make newer players shoot them more often being that they are weilding a paintball gun.

I carry ones only if i am reffing a scenario or tourney, if you shoot a newby, it gives the sport a bad image and they dont come back.

Their cheating doesnt?

i would carry one at an outlaw game out side of our field(our guys are cool), but a scenario or anything like that is asking for trouble.

Well, if they cheat BLATENTLY and repeatadly, then i might grab it out of my bag. They notice, then stop cheating.
You gas up the marker, put on the gloves, strap on the mask, and walk onto the field.. it doesn't matter that you failed a test, that your girlfriend broke up with you last nite, or that you got a ticket on the way there.. your world is right for the next couple hours, this is your heaven on earth.. live it.. love it.. Paintball 4 life..

I often thought of carrying around a side-arm to do the same...We have a few nuts that'll shoot you for doing nothing, even though I'm wearing Flourescent Orange, he'll still hit me on purpose.

Thing is, I'd like a small compact pistol, but the Tac 8 is $230...And the extra clips are murder too. e.e; I don't feel like spending as much on a side-arm as I did on my main gun...

I'm not sure of the sanity of all this, I can see the point that a little assisted reminder would be cool, in theory, but not very practical. We play a hard hitting, fast paced sport, your adrenaine is allready up, and you're not gonna think to clearly when the very person you consider to be there for safety starts shooting you. Now, I keep good control of anger on the field, I've never yelled at a bonusballer or a person on field I disliked, but there are many people out there who go crazy, if they'll do that when shot by a player, what's the obvious reaction to being shot by a reff. I've seen, and broken up several paintball fist fights, and using a pistol as a ref is sure to start some, and I can say, these fights aren't pretty. It's good in theory, but people are people.
