I comprehended, you didnt. No one here is saying they CANT take hits, so if your referring to other refs then I dont think anyone cares since they're not here. The point is your trying to go for a minimalist look on things, such as the analogy "If you cant hit them with one shot then dont shoot," or things to that effect. Shields are just like tourney pants with the pads built in. People can slide without them and not whine and moan, but the pads make it easier on us.

I dont know where to pick it up. Everything else around here, that I've seen, is plastic and its normally too small.

lowes or any home improvement store should have it or a variation of it that will withstand paintballs and be lightweight. just attach yourself a handhold and you got a sheild

plexigalss splinters... which is why you cant use it on paintball tanks. there is another type of material that is like plexi glass but much stronger and dosent splinter. cost more though.... and im not saying that if you use a shield you shouldent ref... i just dont see the need for it in speedball.... in scenario ball ya... like at castle conquest with walls divided every 8 feet by a stagered wall and with 1000+ attackers and 200(posibly +) defenders... it isnt smart to be in there without one.... this is one of the only scenario/woodsball/big games that you are sapose to bunker and everyone shoots everything that moves and dosent move.
