 uhmm...not to be a pill or anything but this topic has been up for over two years. are these new positions ever going to be added? just read through and tally up what peeps want, then do it. you dont have to make a host of new gear all at once for the new positions.

I think a position like the "hybrid sniper" featured in RECON might be a good new position

http://www.specialop.../snipertech.asp
heres a pic of what i am talking about

Well i did some thinking on jobs and tactics for this "hybrid sniper" His main job is Reconassince and Stalking (which can be done at the same time). The hybrid sniper will be more apart of the squad as a quick flanker (pretty much like a ghost flanker) and providing highly accuarute fire.

Gear- a few more rounds then a tradition sniper and not as much ghillie.

PM me if you have any ideas for the position

im thinkin this would be a good idea as well. something along the lines of a stalker/recon sniper would be a great idea.

also, the grenader and tank hunter would be a great idea too.

how about a position that requires close and long range combat.

A person who is exclusivey for kills, like a sniper but more agressive. quick like a dagger, but patient if he needs to be. 1 who would carry a sniping gun(longbow for example) and a saber or dagger weapon weapon. or be able 2 chenge barrels qiuckly for they type of shots he wants to take. take over the snipers place if the sniper get taken out or daggers if the team is short on 1.

call it long sword for the long reach of the sword and the fact that the sowrd is close combat weapon and it just seems like a popular name.

just my 2 cents

I like medic, obviously it wouldn't be a combat position, but if they have a RazorBack position, why not a medic.

Medic would be an interesting idea. but what if you combined medic with pistoleer, medics with only pistols, so they have some paint 2 throw back at the enemy but not a whole lot but enough to keep their heads down for a couple of seconds.
give it some thought.

PS I voted grenadier because if they made a launcher for actual paint grenades that would be so extreme.

ok, some of these positions that people are posting are getting way too specific and subdivided. Positions like medic, tank hunter/commander, and mine layer person (i guess thats and engineer) are specific to scenario games because your average walk-on woodsball game does not give those kind of options to players, while things like ghose flanker, scout, and anvil (i have seen all of those on this topic) are closely related to sniper, dagger, and hammer (in that order). the beauty(?) of the given positions is that they are general enough to fit 99.99% of players. instead of trying to develope new positions that are really only slight variations or hybbrids of the given positions, take a step back an look at the way you play, then when you record your game stats on your brigade page choose the position that is the closest match to your style of play.
and thats my two cents...

Ok. well I am all for adding a tank hunter position, since every time im on the feild i end up running into one of these guys toting the long tube and several nerf rockets. I think that what we really need is a postition for someone who may not always be connected to his team. teamplay is great and highly effective, but sometimes it may not be practical or even possible. This is where the LONE WOLF category is needed. This person is alone, but still understands the big picture of what is going on in the game. They need some of the abilities of almost all the other positions. This person can hide for an ambush, hold off an enemy flank movement, attack the base, complete a mission, or anything else that just needs to be done at that moment, but perhaps there is no one else around, or getting more than one person into an area would be extremely difficult. This person carries a very personal kit and relies that he can make up for not having support with his skill. He is still a team player in the sense that he is working for the team, just not with them. Having one person who is capable of performing a duty that frees up the rest of the team makes him invaluable for shear versatility. A commander now has a one man fire squad, and the rest of the team knows he can show up for their support at any time he is needed.
We own you.

Javelin/Tank Hunter already has specific rules for competitive play that have been adapted to accept its specific style of play. They also have a gun that is specific to their position. Just like the Hammer who has a specialty gun that is generally associated with his position the paintball rocket launcher automatically brings to mind a specific type of player. Adding Grenadiers and pistoleers will just cause more confusion since many players carry these as extras anyway. Out of the given options Javelin is definately the most logical for a new position. (By the way I am nonbiased because all I have is a modified Tippmann 98 so don't think that I am just trying to build myself up.)

A tanker. There's a tank hunter, but no tanker.

I think Mercenary would be a neat position, but the rules involved in playing it would be too difficult and unlikely to happen.

I have a position that I would like to suggest. Paintball player. Someone that cast aside the silly concept of being locked into a specific role of play and works to hone their skills and become a better all around player of the sport. This is one of those debates that will never end unless the forum gods place a ban on the posting of new position debates. Specops is not worried about making new positions right now. They are worried about surviving the slump that the paintball industry as fallen into. So please instead of keeping this meaningless thread alive and taking up space on the forum server just let it die.

Why not Ref? I know its not a team position, however it is a field position. I think it would be a good thing to be able to pick up a few points for sitting out (if you could call it that) of a game and being a ref. I actually learn a lot from being able to see both sides of a game as it progresses.

i agree with him... this is pretty much how i paintball, i like to flank people and stalk them or shot a couple and dissapear, where as an ambush sniper all your supose to do is set up an ambush. dont get me wrong though an ambush sniper is a great position but u cant always set up an ambush. also with ghillie on you encounter a lot of problems like it getting caught on stuff and you tend to overheat and that causes fogging which is very problematic for someone especially if they are all alone and they have no one to cover them.
also it is a good idea that if you play this type of a posistion you should travel light and fast but with stuff that wont snag butt you sneak through the brush, cause trust me you will do alot of sneaking through places and maybee some crawling so it is a good idea to have elbow pads and a flat fronted vest so it becomes easier to crawl...
any question contact me.

I'm thinking of a javelin/grenadier/engineer- someone whom hunts tanks if need be, and uses mortars, launchers, grenades, and traps

Pistoleer would only be useful if they were very good. I've gone up against dual-wield pistoleers, and they're for real

Defense Specialist- like a heavy rifleman geared toward defense, high capacity-maybe turret gunner-grenades-suppression fire. Smart in using retreats and would direct ambushes
