Nah, don't worry about it. I don't give a (insert bad word) what others think of me. I did it because I was looking around and saw sniper this, sniper that under peoples avatars. I did it more of haha type of thing. I just said it was from webdog so someone else wouldn't be like " hey you got that from Tyger  ".

I'll listen to peoples suggestions and opinions but in the end, it's what I think that matters to me(even if it's wrong). I'm so tired of the snipers don't exsist in paintball. It's a generalization about a style of play. That's it, nothing more. Dagger, Sabre, and Broadsword are REAL posistions because spec op says so? I dont think so. It just helps people figure out where they fit in to talk about some of the same things.

Look at me *tisk, tisk* Now I'm ranting.

Lol, I understand.

So long as you think for yourself, which we talked about in the PM you sent me(bout time somone sent me one, i was feeling lonely ;) ). There are a lot of people who DONT think for themselves and the way you worded it, it seemed like you didnt. That and i cant tell your tone of voice by letters so i can see now you are joking. My mistake.

Now. The SO positions people are 99% fine with, but the sniper thing is a touchy subject for somone reason. "Snipers dont shoot people from 1000yrds away in paintball." Well shoot son, a Dagger doesnt shank anyone either. They are merely guidelines, so why shouldnt the position known as sniper be one as well?

Its a specific way to get your general style of play across. Think of it this way. Speedball and such you have a Frontman, Midman, and Backman. One could argue that the Midman stays in the back or takes off in front so hes not a midman, but thats not what i want to hit on. Speedball is the same pretty much the whole time round. You have xft by xft of field, x type of bunkers, x rules, x number of players, Xcetera. So things stay constant for the most part, sure on paper there seems to be a fair amoutn of variables but most of them dont even really matter. So when you say "I'm a frontman," It's pretty much understood your general style of play.

Now, not only in woodsball do you have "x yrds by x yrds plus the creek, part of the cornfield, and that bend roudn the corner'' you also have different terrein, level of players, and styles. You could say "I'm a pointman." And some people would think your an anti-sniper, your a 'Dagger', your really agg, or other things. However, if you say your a dagger people will understand, for the most part, what and how you do things.

So, why cant we use PAINTBALL sniper in the same sense? To get across a general idea of how one plays.

They should make a name for snipers that ghillie up and camp all game, while not moving.... and eventually getting nothing done.

I elect to call them "Doormats", or "Wounded Wookies".

They have a name. They are also helpful. Here read!

Ambush Sniper

The ambush snipers job is for the most part to set up an ambush, which will not only slow the enemy, but confuse them too. If an ambush sniper sets up correctly, they will be able to put the opponent into a trap they cannot recover from. Usually, a sniper using this type of tactic will lie in wait for the enemy, and wait until they have passed his location slightly. That is when the sniper sets the trap, and shoots one or more of the enemies, effectively signaling his team to attack as well. This tactic is used generally on the weak side of a strong side attack, or one in which the majority of your team attacks from a certain side of the field. One of the main jobs of the ambush sniper is too merely slow the enemy from progressing while your team retrieves the flag. Ambush sniper is one of the most common methods used, for the most part because it is one of the simpler and effective ways to cut down the numbers on the opposing team.

NO disrespect to Tyger, but just because somone says somthing on a show or forum, doesnt make it true. In this case however, it doesnt matter. Although you shoudlnt base your ideas on what other people have said. Think for yourself instead of regurgitatting what you hear.

It's just my opinion, formed over years of playing and seeing what works and what doesn't. And it's just one player's opinion. I still stand by what I say.

But then again I wear ears and a tail for fun when I play.

Most snipers don't care what you call them. Most snipers don't care if people say they don't exist, and most snipers don't care if you call them a sniper. I've been called numerous things including: Swamp Fox, Assassin, Stump, and of course Headshot. Either way I'm still a sniper. I say sniper because that's just what I learned to call it. Sure you can go to a scenario game and yell, "Specialist!" but most people will just go, "WTF?" However, when you yell, "Sniper!" Everyone knows that there is someone hidden, shooting accurate shots, and they know to drop to the ground or run. There is really no reason to change the name that so many are familiar with. Sure, snipers won't care, heck 98% of people won't care if it has officially been changed, however everyone will always understand what a sniper is whether they exist or not. So you can call it what you like, most people won't care. It's a free country and like ghostinthewood, you can call me a blooming hotdog for all I care, and either way, you're going to step on me, and I'm going to barrel tag you.;) :D

I can understand why you thik hat we should change the name. but the thing is that we are called snipers not for the purpose of being sneaky and taking one shot at a time, we call ourselves snipers because that is what we do. we hide and gather intel on the opposition. we ambush whole squads at a time. we hit specialized targets at a distance others cannot usually hit. a specialist is a whole squad of men who do special missions for the military. yes they have much better accuary than most soldiers but they dont have spesialized equipment for sniping. and in that group their is usually a man with the most accurate shot. he is the long shot guy that gives cover for the other guys and takes out the snipers on the roofs. we are that guy.
nothing more

Here's My opinion. I believe that the word sniper is a very lenient term and should be used that way, but its YOUR choice how u want to use it. ;)

Thats cool that my writing is coming into use a bit in other threads. I am honored.....

Anywho, I just wanted to say that all of the "categories" that I wrote for positions are really just like tactics if you will. Or styles of play if you wish to call them that. One of the better ones is methods..lol. The point here is that as you can see there are many different ways to play sniper. Therefore it is wise to have a common word for all of the things that a sniper might do.

Thus, paintball sniper. If we didn't simply use the paintball sniper to help people understand they would truly be left without a clue of the geral style that is used. And from all of the different tactics the sniper can use, it would be confusing if the common word for us did not exist, and we changed it.

If it works then don't fix it....

That's what I was trying to say! We use sniper so other people can understand our tactics.
