I mention this every time I see people repeatedly taking their masks off while on the playing side of the net. I also mention this when I see people removing their BBD's in the staging area as they are about to take the field.

This is a story I repeat day after day of reffing, and everyone always gives the same response, a dumbfounded lookl ike, "wow, something flying into my eye can actually damage it?" It is a great story and thoguh I'm sorry that it happened to you, this one story has probably saved countless people's vision.

AN HERO.

You're quite a good person.
Don't know if you'll read this, but I look up to you in a sense.
The fact you still played after this experience is envious. I don't think I could even go through with living [over exaggeration, but kinda accurate.]

An hero.

Thanks for writing this, it makes you think.

I just made all the paintballers I know read this.

I am sick of playing with people who don't treat safety seriously.

among other things I see when playing; people taking masks off while out and watching a game in progress, taking masks off while playing to remove fog, not treating tanks right, not using a BBD, shooting in the staging area.

and the fact you still play after this shows dedication
I was once doing a wheelie on my bike and hit something, ended in my throat to the handel bars. It took me a year to even think about doing it again

your very lucky. a kid (newb) shot his eye completly out at my local feild a couple of years ago. it seems he forgot to turn his marker off and degas it. he was cleaning it and had the barrel of and looked down the end of the marker. and i guess he mistakenly hit the trigger. now he too has the rest of his life to think about what he did.

i try to teach all new players as best i can. i to use to play renegade ball back in the mid eighties. with nothing more than shop goggles to protect our eyes.luckily nobdy got hit in the face.

X_O

This is... shocking. Never again will I even THINK of even lifting my mask, even if a gnat finds its way in again <_<

Gruesome but neccessary. Thanks 1-I, you've undoubtedly saved at least one person who's read this.

ah man, i read the eye story, that sucks. i remember i almost lost my right eye 1 1/2 years ago. i was at indoor percussion and we were getting ready to go home, my band director asks me and my friend to move a vibraphone, well on my end was an bare cymbal stand, basically a metal rod. we had to bring it to the auditorium stage, well to get to it, you have to go down the sittin area which has a downward slope and it is slightly curved to the right. well i was on the back and my friend and i rode it down before many times. well this time, i got away from him and we smashed into a secure chair. my face/eye rams into the cymbal rod, missing my right eye by about 1/32". it tore the inside of my eye lid, thats how close it was. it wne through my eye lid and into my eye brow. i pulled it out asap and my eye was all orange. i thought i blew up my eye, it was blood. it was bleeding horribly, i was screaming, all the girls were crying, the guys were in shock, and i was in pain. it was horrible

I glad you posted this, I have always been adamant about goggle usage, this just goes to prove how important it really is. Thank you for saving someone this same ordeal!
