Ok I did a search and saw no actual instructions telling anyone the procedure for making a custom sig or avatar. So hence why I decided to make this thread. First you are going to need a copy of an image editing program. Photoshop works best. If you are new to photoshop dont worry its not as hard as it looks. If you are making an animated signature or avatar you will also need a program that creates animations. I use unfreez. It can be downloaded for free here. Making signatures and avatars are the same except for the sizes.

Step one. Open photoshop. Click file/new. Set in your image dimensions (64x64 for an avatar, signatures on the spec ops forum cannot be more than 50,000 pixels, but the size may vary on other forums so make it whatever size and shape you want fot now i will get to resizing later, I suggest making it rectangular with the width being 5 times bigger than the length.)

Step 2. Create your art. If you are not a good artist dont worry just click file/open and find an image you want to use. It opens the image in a seperate window within photoshop. You may now edit your picture if neccecary. After you have the image the way you want it click on the rectangular marquee tool. Its on the top left hand corner on the toolbar. And wrap it around your image then copy it into the canvas you are using for your avatar/sig. If it does not fit hot control-T hold the shift key and adjust the size by dragging on a corner.

Step 3. (if animated) Continue step 2 creating the number of frames you want save the as a gif.

Step 4. open unfreez and drag the gifs into the program in the order they will be played. Click create animated gif and save as the name you want. There you go you now have an animated sig or avatar.

Step 5. If you need to resize the images. Get ifranview it can be downloaded for free here. Open up each individual frame and click control r. Adjust the sizes as needed. Then use unfreez to make another animated gif.

Ok now maybe that theres a thread on how to make sigs and avatars people will stop asking for help making it.

EDIT: if you can't afford photoshop you can probably download a cracked version off of limewire. just know that it is illegal and you will probably have a slighlty older version. if that doesn't interest you there is a free photo editor called gimp find it at www.gimp.org

FIrst of all, Photoshop is a rather expensive program, but you can probably find an older version for a decent price. Go to any software dealer, like CompUSA or Best Buy or Office Max, and talk to a store person.

Now to get it here:

click My Controls (top-right corner of any page on the forums)
Click Edit Signature under the Personal Profile thing on the left of the page

Once you're looking at your signature, you're going to enter the following (remove the *s from yours):

[*IMG]http://www.PASTE_HERE_YOU'LL_GET_IT_IN_A_SECOND.com[*/IMG]

Notice that the location is on the internet; that means you have to find a place that will host images for you. Some recommend ImageShack, but I use SilentWhisper. You sign up for an account -- it's free -- and follow the simple instructions. You'll get it, probably.

Once you have your image hosted, all you have to do is go to the picture on your hosting site, right-click it and select "Properties." You'll see an address called "Address;" Copy it, paste in the part that says "Paste here" and update your sig.

If it worked, your picture will be there. If you did something wrong, you'll either see a red x or something that looks kind of like the thing I wrote out above, in which case a lot of people will probably PM you and tell you how to fix it.
Go Yoda -- I didn't order that!
