Day 291
Logged onto Ebay to see what kinds of survival knives they had and approx. costs. Also looked at quality compasses. I have never had to navigate solely by a compass, but I always thought it wouldbe a cool skill and possibly very helpful in the days to come...as well as knowing how to navigate by the stars, or tell what is where in the night sky in relation to your position. Checked out family shelters also. With all of the storms we have had lately, and I live on a slab, i might want to get one of those and stock it.
I saw the other day where some guy bought an old school bus and had it buried, then ran air ducts down to it, along with an entrance. He had modified the inside to hold beds, food and supply storage space, and cooking space.. it was cool.

We put our glass to the sky and lift up. And live tonight 'cause you can't take it with ya. So raise a pint for the people that aren't with us. And live tonight 'cause you can't take it with ya...

- Picked up a few more cases of long-term grub. Raviolis, chilli, ramen, jerky, granola, etc. Eat it anyway, so if nothing happens it ain't going to waste.
- Got an Ontario 18" Military machete. Right up there with paracord as the top crap you want in a bad situation.
- Got DK's Survival Handbook. Illustrated manual on how to get what you need anywhere you are.
- Learning how to identify and harvest local wild edibles.
- Picked up a new sharpening stone set and a few more bottles of oil. Gotta keep the toys sharp.
- Got a bastard file to fit those magazines that were a tad too long for my mag well. Almost doubled the number of AK mags I can use now.
- Picked up a pocket chainsaw. Handy piece of gear.
- EDIT: Forgot to mention, also picked up more bottled water and rotated my supply.
Stuff on the "to do soon" list.
- Pick up some archery gear and learn to use it. Leaning towards a recurve or longbow, less stuff to FRAG up.
- Get some legit throwing knives. Maybe some Cold Steel True Flights. Might even add a tomahawk or three in there.
- Learn to make some primitive weapons. I'd like to forge my own bushcraft knife, and maybe build a PVC or survival bow.
- Get a couple more guns.
- Pick up a few cases of ammo.
- Get the rest of my Backpacking gear together. Can double as a "go bag", and a hell of a lot better than the one I have now.
- Get signed up for the company gym. Between the climbing gear, free weights, and pool, I want to get in at LEAST as good of shape like I was in high school.
- Get some more survival blades, especially big ones. A Kukri or two, maybe a Bowie, plus a handful of Mora Clippers. Might even get a high-end blade.

And I'm really thinking about picking up some of those solar chargers. I could run small electronics for a good long whole on them. Like MP3 players or that GPS I got for Christmas. They're pretty common and affordable these days.
Oh, and I got the garden started for this year. I'm disappointed those old eggplant seeds didn't sprout, but most of my other stuff sprouted. Tomatoes, squash, melons, herbs, onions, etc. I try to keep some food growing around the place when I can. And those pecan trees put off a couple hundred pounds of nuts a year. I want of get some fruit trees and bushes that I don't have to keep replanting something every year. And even if nothing happens, it's all you can eat blueberry or peach cobbler.
Plus, for guys like me who eat a ton of Asian food, I buy rice and sauces on sale at the Asian market and store it in small buckets.
I just buy a lot of stuff I like. It adds up.
EDIT: Oh, and if you want some help finding a good survival knife, let me know. I can find you something in most any budget.

Like 30 throwing knives of various weights and styles, a hatchet that I'm still practicing with...the sciences are way different between throwing knives and hatchets...
I've got an old trusty 12 gauge that has been sawed off...don't tell anyone...and good gosh I bet we have over 3000 shotgun shells in our house between my dad and 7 brothers...

Aside from that, we have a good bit of hurricane survival type stuff. MRE's, canned food, jerkey, toilet paper, q-tips, baby wipes, paper towels, rope, para cord, gas generator, and a few other doodads to stay alive for a week or two.

Doorbells? Seriously? That's the swear filter? . -Pirate
