Falkland Islands War
On 2nd April, 1982, the forces of Argentine President, General Leopoldo Goltieri, invaded the sovereign British Falkland Islands. Argentina claimed rights to the islands dating back to 1767, but the residents had voted to be British subjects in a court of law in 1945. On the 4th of May 1982, the first assaults by British troops to regain control of the main islands began. In a speech, prior to embarking, British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, told the troops, "Take the Islands back!". On 14th June, British troops re-took the capital city of Port Stanley, and accepted the surrender of the Argentinian General, Mario Menendez. On 18th February, 2012, we will re-live history. Will Argentina claim it's prize, or will the British retain their sovereign islands?
