So looking for a bit of advice here. I have 3 choices.

1: I can go to school full time and draw on unemployment through the CAT(commissioner approved training) and get my associate in arts and science degree. Which would allow me to transfer to a university and get my engineering degree. Problem with this is that money around our house would be tight. My girlfriend and I would be relying on her income to pay the bills. Though low because we live frugally leaves me feeling like a leach.

2: I have 2 job offers available to me. One for a job making 12.32 an hour with 80 hour work weeks, the other as a real estate agent in a town experiencing a small boom in the market. I could make a good deal of money doing either or both, but I'm 21 and I've been putting off going to school for the last 4 years.

3: I could do full time school and real estate agent. It wouldn't make me feel like as much of a leech but the income would be unreliable at best. Could be awesome one moment and fail the next. Plus though the hours would be more flexable it still would leave little time for my girlfriend and I to see each other.

I can't do both the hourly job and school because it's a physical job that for the next few months would occupy 1/2 of my time. Seeing as my girlfriend works 2 jobs that would mean we would hardly ever see each other let alone time to study and classes with mandatory attendance.

You can never go wrong with education. Get it, and you can qualify for a job that doesn't require so many hours, or so much labour to make a decent living. your family and your body will be much better for it.

the longer you wait for school, the easier it becomes to keep putting it off ... life happens ... get it now, or you could be working a job whose sole requirement is a strong back .... till you retire, or can't work due to physical ailments of using your strong back your whole life and can't afford health care because you lived check to check ...

Education is key and when in doubt walk a busy road and pick up the cans for the refund (if your state does that)

I'm in your GOLLY GEE WILIKERS shoes right now. I dropped out of school to take a job at an aerospace company I was interning for, and despite making amazing money for a 21 year old I KICK MYSELF EVERYDAY for not finishing school. I'm looking back into it but now I've got every excuse in the book. From my house and car payments to the fact that I travel for work 5-7 months a year or even that "It's hard, wah wah wah". Do it now because it's only going to get harder. You're lucky you have a girlfriend that wants you to succeed and is willing to help support you. Help out when ever you can and make sure you pay her back for sticking by your side during the hard times that might come up in the near future, by sticking by hers when that engineering degree pays off for you.

number 1 all the way. take it from a 21 year old who took the wrong path and is having a hard time getting back on to the right one.

School. Get a night job if you need the cheddar. Hell, I did full time culinary school during the day, and worked 6-8 hours at nights. If you have the willpower, you can do both.

Trust me, when you're in the work force, you're not going to look back and go "Damn, I wish I was less qualified." or "Things would be SO much better for me if I didn't have this degree, and all the additional qualifications it grants me." Invest in yourself. When you're 35, you'll be glad you got the degree and the better job, instead of having a little more rent and beer money when you were 21.

Hell, my degree helped get me my current job, and I'm making more per hour than my mom, and getting better hours to boot.

That was my thought... then again I'm the drunk that slaves away in a kitchen 75% of his time.
And is drinking 50% of his time.

Don't add that up... at least not if you know my bosses.
Really trying to find a job that doesn't make me drink to ignore the fact I hate my job...

I agree with this. You would A) being going to school full time and have a job so you don't feel like a leech, its a win-win. Just make sure that work doesn't take the priority over school, the sooner you get a degree the sooner you can stop feeling like a leech.

#1. Do the school thing as long as you can while you are young and have fewer obligations and challenges. The older you get, and the more responsibilites and obligations you acquire, the harder it gets to go back to school, and it's not going to get any cheaper, either. You're not a leach so long as you are in school trying to build a foundation for you and your girlfriend's mutual future. Times are hard now, and many people with advanced educations are out of work, but it's still an advantage over less educated job searchers (the majority), and when you do get hired, it can help you move up faster and add a digit or two in front of the decimal point of your salary.
