Ok It has been a really long time since I've been here. Let me give a little background. I've been a brigade and forum member since 05. I played in the first two SPPL seasons. Southeast region Ocala, Fl the first year and near Savannah, Ga the 2nd year. After that our team split up and never could get enough members to compete in anymore events. For those of you who have played in the SPPL you know once you play in that the going to your local paintball field and playing just doesn't give you that same feeling. So that is one of many reason that took me out of paintball for a while. Well know I'm back in it and when I came and did a search for SPPL to get ready for next season I've come to find out its no longer in exsistence. Can I get a little background on why it dissolved and if it is coming back?

Short version: Funding

I'll spare my other comments about what I think helped kill it for now.

Funding....sale....heheheh. no.

The SPPL is still the property of the original owner of SpecOps so there is a far flung chance that the SPPL could return to the market. But that chance is tiny.

As for the fall of the league, that was mismanagement. As the SPPL changed hands no one could mange to get it right. Poor operations, lack of quality staff, poor planning and a mountain of other mistakes continuously degraded the experience for the players.
So they stoped going to the events.

The format is great, fun, fast, challenging. But from the promoters side of the coin the format is staff heavy and takes a ton of behind the scenes planning and control, so much so that if you are not on top of the thing 100% it crumbles.

The SPPL crumbled apart slowly. Many of the players from the first few seasons went out of our way to help keep it alive, but alas it is gone for now.

In order to bring back something similar, the tough economy must be factored in. A smaller dynamic (less cost to the producer(s)), & less cost to the players might be a doable thing.

If individual producers could re-team to produce a "league" by state, it might get things going again. If there are "owners" issues, call it something else...a scenario series maybe.

Yeah I always thought that funding was going to be a huge issue b/c after advertisement, cost of flying in that I know SpecOps did the first 2 years to get fields planned, and then on top of that splitting the pie with the various field owners, I felt even back then it was going to be short lived if it didnt change. I know see apparently it didnt change...

Plus on top of all that planning seemed like the events never failed to have atleast one if not 2 rather large hiccups accompanied with numerous smaller issues at every turn. I know imparticular one game my team Zero Tolerance played in at the GA regional event had an affect on the changing of some major rules during the actual event. I know SpecOps did several games with that format at their facility in Utah to try to smooth out any issues prior to launching the series but still I heard about similar stories as mine at almost every event.

But ya know even with all that said it was by far the most incredible paintball experience Ive ever had. Really wish it was still around. So does anyone know of any leagues, tourneys, or just locations where this type format(or similar to it) games are played?

Also is there a link somewhere to all the old rules still in exsistence?

Ive found on their website where the 2011 season took place but can not see anything about next year or even news about this year. And can not get to their rules page either. May just be me but all of the links do not work. So a bump for my last post but does anyone of a set of the old rules for SPPL or the news rules for UWL?

Oh ok thanks Duhon...have you played in one of their events before?

Or has anyone for that matter? Id like to hear some feedback on the UWL. Good bad? Also how does it compare to the old SPPL if there is anyone who has played in both.
