Well, the first episode of Season 2 is almost a set-up episode. It gets good, don't worry ;)

Go down to the Hobbies and Interests section, and you'll see the Walking Dead comes in and out of the "zombie" thread there.

Yea, we have been discussing it there a bit. I was annoyed when they were going to let the kid pet the deer...

Related to your discussion about "only one gun shot" in season 2, episode 1.

Consider that ammunition may be in short supply. None of the characters, with the possible exception of Daryl (and Merl his brother from season 1) looked even remotely prepared for any sort of disaster. The "average gun owner" doesn't keep nearly enough ammunition around. It's possible that in season 1 they were indiscriminate with their fire, and now realize how low on supplies they are to last as long a time as possible.

That doesn't even take into account noise profile. Perhaps they learned from the attack on their old base camp why evading notice is so crucial.

If placed into a true "all out disaster" with long term implications, I would be very conservative with my ammunition use too.

Very true. I like the approach that Walking Dead has taken. In all honesty, Daryl has the right idea. Silent take down. A gun firing should be a last resort, since the sound profile from a gun shot only draws the walkers.

Though about that one shot.

Based on the size of the kid, the size of the deer, and the placement of the shot, there is almost no way they couldn't have seen the kid before making that shot. And the straight in/through angle that was a PERFECT center thoratic cavity hit, would mean that unless they were right there practically on top of the deer, they would have almost certainly had to thread that shot to nail them both. Furthermore, no one who can make that good of a center hit doesn't know the rules of firearms safety.

I'm gonna have a hard time believing that Carl getting shot wasn't intentional.

Some of the guys I run with suggested the shooter believed him to be a walker. I really don't think that kind of mistake would have been made seeing as most walkers are grey and Carl well... isn't.

Depends on how far off they were when they made the shot.

True. What if they were using a scope though? I can see a good bit around deer when I hunt. It usually it isn't in thick woods like that though...

I see the issue if they were not, but I figured that would be clear that it would be hard to tell the condition of somebody without using irons or anything that did not have any type of magnification. And I missed the beginning of the show to see if Otis had a scope or not...

He did....

Looked to be something like a 3x-9x variable, didn't get a real good shot of it to know for sure.

Otis also claimed he never saw Carl before and during the shot, only after both the deer and Carl were on the ground. Admittedly, that could just be him trying to cover his own ass after the fact.
