EDIT: actually just youtube search Petty officer hitler... Some content prolly wouldn't fly with some of the rules here.
He also didn't make chief (another vid).

Lounge name change. Forum disappeared and now is the hangout :(

Which guy? Hitler? Or Shadow? Or just, "that guy who sometimes refers to himself in the third person"?

Don't tell me you're PO Hitler...

Look, whichever the case I'm gonna say this to you the same way we used to say it on my ship...

DON'T.

BE.

THAT.

DAN.

Disregard the Dan part, you're not Dan, but none-the-less.

Edit: No, not that guy.

Bwahahahahaha!!! Ok a case of mistaken identity...

I thought you had that "my military network" (or... whatever, cause I'm dead certain that's not what it's called) sig builder sig?
BTW thanks, that convo was what inspired me to make a graphic sig after being here for years without ever doing so. There was so much stuff I wanted to put in it though, my crows, my medals (full on medals, not ribbions), ribbon rack on the side for non medal ribbons, a shipwreck, my gun, 1-i's Gold Seal of Approval that my gun won! But all that stuff in a sig is just too damn crowded and complicated, so I went with just the Shipwreck. Now I'm thinking I should make several different sigs, with all those things in them and just rotate them on a monthly basis... but now I'm massively sidetracked and WAY overthinking the sig thing :|

"Nukin' it", one might say...

Anyway haha! So you're the guy that plans on going VBSS...

Yeah they used to be INCREDIBLY strict on this forum, the mods have chilled out considerably.

Anyway, that's horrible, how long have you been waiting on orders now? Actually on second thought enjoy it, your command will work you into the ground, make you dig yourself out, then work you back into the ground. You pull a 72 hour sleep dep shift yet? If not, you will.

Anyway when you do get your orders and make it to your ship make sure you volunteer for VBSS promptly, with your chain of command. There's never any shortage of VBSS volunteers and someone else will get the job if you don't ask for it first and often. Maybe even mention it to the CO during check in just so he knows who you are and what you want to do (might want to ask your liason about that one first though).

And when you do get in there don't be afraid to take the lead if and when necessary. My experience was that on combat teams superiors are a LOT more open to taking suggestions from their subordinates. You need all the info you can get and ignoring something just because the new guy said it can result in someone's death, maybe your own.

So when I was going through VBSS school I had only been onboard my ship for a few weeks, a month or two at the most, and my sweep team partner was a 3rd Class Petty Officer. But when we were chasing down a non-compliant contact during a mission simulation, and my partner ran for the first door we saw the guy go through, I didn't hesitate to grab him by the shoulder and say, "No, let's go this way!" and he didn't hesitate to follow. We entered the space through a different breach ended up coming out on the guy's flank and catching him completely off gaurd, where he was laying an ambush for us right at that breach my partner first ran to.

Nice, I will talk to my sponsor about it ASAP. I am not even done with my schools. I have been here (Pcola) a year and a month almost exactly. I have till' probably (my estimate) around december, maybe a couple months more. I am just waiting on verbals (my next schools depend on the platform I go to). I can't wait. Thanks for the advice, it will help a lot!

My experience with the military, there's gonna be a LOT of people who are too scared to stand up and take control of things so if you start talking like you want to get on a team or make something happen, they'll try to hold you back with them because they don't understand the system. So unless you have someone of authority tell you that you can't do something or be someone, keep trying! And even if they do tell you, try anyways-who knows, you may find out something THEY don't know ;)

I used to do that a lot :D

I bet. I have more fun memories from there than crappy ones.

My division had a decent amount of "hazing" though. Gooood times

What rate were you again?

Yeah bootcamp was interesting haha! You get any recruit ninja's in your division?

Hull Maintenance Technician, a snipe through and through. Crypto right?

The guys not noticed by chief until 3/4 the way through? Or the ones who put on their sweats and slide around the floors at night while the watch yelled at them (but couldn't figure out who it was)?

And not gonna lie, I hear HT is a lame/crappy rate, to put it nicely. I am on this base though... So who knows what anyway.
I am not gonna be able to deal with this much sitting around well in my rate, being a tech helps that a bit though.

I am what the old EW's used to do, before they merged...
