We were playing paintball earlier, and my Dad ran out of air after shooting about 1 1/2 hoppers of paint. He put a new tank on, and it ran out just as fast. I could hear no leak, and the pressure only went down when he was firing... any ideas on what the problem could be. It's a 3000/48 HPA tank.
I should also add that is is a X7 Phenom Mechanical.

Hmm... well for one, how slowly did you fill the tank? The faster you fill it, the more gas particle collisions take place, causing the gas to heat up. By heating it up, it expands and takes up more room in the tank than it normally would. So, when it is "full", it actually isn't. Once you let the air cool down, it may drop to 2000 psi total or even less, depending on how fast you filled, etc.

Still, that's quite a drop in efficiency (based on a quick google, another fellow would have got approximately 621 shots with his Phenom and a full 48/3000). You are getting about 300.

Don't own one, so maybe can't help.

I was nowhere near when it was filled, but I watched the gauge rapidly drop from 1000 to 0 after about 30 shots. Before, my dad got a whole game out of the 1000 mark.

Did you chrony the gun? If he was dumping a lot of air that fast, it might've been shooting a tad hot, perhaps a reg adjustment is needed.

All of his shots were 270-280.

Remove the end cap and hook up your tank. Dry fire a few shoots and then listen for any leaks. Most likely you probably have a small leak. Air leaks are common in new Phenom's. You can find fixes to the most common air leaks in the Phenom guide.

I describe this as minor, because you had to hold the grip up to your ear to hear the hisssssssssssssssss.
