So I ordered a silver 14" All-American barrel tip off Ebay the other day and the seller sent me an additional, scuffed-up black 14" tip out of generosity. The inner finish of the barrel is still very good, so I was thinking of trying a custom paint job on it since it was a bonus anyway. The only concern I had was when using spray paint, how do you all keep paint from getting inside the barrel through the porting? All-American tips have porting over their entire length, so I don't want to get paint inside potentially affecting the accuracy or causing barrel breaks. Any tips are appreciated, thanks!!

Fill the barrel bore with something. The time I stripped anno for polishing I would use electrical tape in the bore to seal off the porting. Then I would stuff a cottonball in both ends of the barrel, then seal off the cotton with wax.

That kept the barrel bore clean, smooth and unmarked and allowed me to soak off the anno and polish to a high shine.

I used a crap ton of cotton... I simply kept stuffing it into the barrel itself until I simply couldn't force any more into it. I've done five barrels like this, and none of them have been affected. It would make more sense to try and seal it better, but the cotton soaks up the paint very easily.

For barrel protecting when painting I use a fluffy wrapped in clingfilm (saran wrap I believe in the US)

This also makes a handy grip to hold and turn the barrel while painting

Then if required use wooden toothpicks to poke out residue in porting.

I've used paper towels w/ good success as well, just cram them in like you would the cottonballs. I just very lightly dust the barrel so as to not cause any clogging of the ports.

I think I could've figured out the "clingfilm"... but what the heck is a "fluffy"? A barrel swab maybe?

I did actually have a rabbit available, but he was a giant and wouldn't fit in the barrel..



I would call this a fluffy / fluffy stick and two types of squeegie - the pull through and the standard squeegie
