Breast Cancer.

A few days before Christmas my mother had a mammogram and they found something. She went in for testing and we all had to wait for the results due to the holidays. Stress and worry, right?
The doctor's office called her yesterday to let he know the results were in and he wanted to see her today at 11:20 am. If the results were fine they would have told her so over the phone. Being told to come in means it's not good, we all figured it was cancer.
Almost 3 hours after the appointment, I hadn't heard from my mother. MORE STRESS AND WORRY!
So I called. My grandmother answered since mom wasn't back yet. She'd heard from my mom, she and my step dad went for lunch and had to run some other errands... 20 minutes later mom calls.
Here's the scoop:
they caught it very early, it's intraductal carcinoma. The tumor is 1cm(about 1/2") so it's not that big. I forgot to ask if it was invasive or not. Looking on line says it's normally no-invasive doesn't spread) .
What does this mean? Not sure. There's a bit more testing to be done to determine the exact treatment. A mastectomy is unlikely which is good. The most likely course of action is a lumpectomy along with radiation therapy.
She plans on shaving her head if radiation therapy is needed and donating her waist long hair for cancer kids wigs.
Am I relieved? Yeah, but not 100%. I know treatment can affect a person worse than the disease in some cases so until we know everything... I'm about 80%.

That's very cool of her. Its great that even in a potentially bad situation for herself she's thinking of others.
Hoping everything turns out okay for her in the end!

She has an appointment with a surgeon on Jan 11. It's just a consult right now but she'll get more info on what the surgery would entail.
She also read this thread and says, "Thank you" for all the well wishes and that I misunderstood about her hair.....
She's not shaving it ALL off...

Breast Cancer is some serious business. even if its small. My mother has had ovarian cancer for 5 years now. I'm somewhere in the same boat as you.
I hope it all turns out good! and its great that you caught it early.

She survived the treatments and was told she was cancer free. Several months passed by and she was still and sore and swollen in the breast. She was supposed to go get another biopsy but that's been moved for some reason so she has to wait some more....

"You know that's not a good thing right?"
"Of course it is, it adds more grip, greater stability"
