Quit feeling sorry for yourself and go do the things you want. You want to go to college? Get good grades. Work hard. Quit your whining. This is the way the world works. Get over it. You want to impact the world? Find something you're passionate about and work in it. Study it, know it, breathe it. You're not going to contribute anything by posting this sob story on the web. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but Lord knows you need to hear it. The world owes you nothing. If you want something you need to work for it. Get off your ass and do something with your life.

Now that was the kick in the ass...Now for a slap on the back. Look everyone gets discouraged sometimes, but you can't let it drag you down. You should be hopeful, but at the same time still do what you need to in order to accomplish whatever your goals are. In your case, right now that means getting good grades and getting a scholarship. I've been there, I know how pointless it can feel. But when you get something you want because you worked hard for it, there's few things more gratifying. As you get farther along in college it'll all come together. Figure out what you want, and GO FOR IT. Focus on it, work hard, and seize it. Society isn't gonna change, but you can. Of course society will fail. It will die. All of them do. There will always be ills in the world.

You know Tex, once in a great while, you actually say things that make me think you'd be one hell of an officer.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll come along and ruin that impression shortly. :P

You sound like you have such a good deal of confidence in me PW... I've definitely seen a lot of bad officers, and a few good ones. So I have a pretty good idea of how I want to operate when I commission in two years.

But...I'm going to be in the cockpit of a multi-million dollar death machine, not leading a platoon, so I guess we'll never know for sure.

I Feel like I addressed this in the top of my original post.
But once again Im not "feeling sorry for myself" Im not "whining" im not un-happy in any ways.
And its not collage its university, which I was accepted to.
And I do work.

But once again. This was not ment to be a "Oh poor me" thread by any means.
I just think society has pushed to hard to make a individual wealthy by means of making others poor.
Which doesnt make sense as there are plenty of ways people can still be rich, people can still be poor. But Not Dirt poor.
There's alot we as people can do. But nobody does. ( I include myself in this group) By no means Am I perfect.

There's alot we as people can do. But nobody does.

Lots of people do. Frankly though we're not technologically advanced enough to be able to counter fate. I don't mean fate like some cosmic force that decided some people have to be poor -- I mean circumstance. Take the story of Tarzan. Right now, we possess no force capable of taking Tarzan out of the jungle and making him a normal human being.... that's an almost-sorta-parallel for an awful lot of today's poor. Some poor kid gets born to a poor family in a poor ghetto, he grows up a certain way and we don't have the power to transform him or her into something else. Thankfully and somewhat miraculously, there are third-generation white-trash, redneck, and gang-banger kids who decide "enough of this crap" and make something of themselves -- those people are ten times more awesome than I am, and lemme tell ya, I'm pretty awesome. But what that takes, is personal motivation.

That doesn't solve everything for everybody, by any stretch of the imagination. Like I said, we can't fight fate and fate is a bastard. There are lotsa poor people who are poor for lotsa reasons. Successful people aren't the problem, though -- they're the solution, or rather, the product of the solution. We WANT success, for everybody. But you can't get success for everybody, without getting success for some people first. Yet. Maybe someday we'll be able to change that, I've got an open mind.... but for now, that's how the world works. So, go get yours, and encourage those around you to go get theirs, with caring and positive influence. Give back when you can. Don't, when you can't. THAT is how you'll make the world a better place.
Go Yoda -- I didn't order that!

It's like my old man always says, "Son it's a money making deal." And that's it, that's all, people want money to have power and do whatever they want.

The only reason sin exists is because people Decide to follow the un-true, a direct retaliation on the love of another person.

Sin is not a "thing" that will always be, It is a effect of a cause, the cause being the ignorance of the objective truth in life.

i learned a LONG time ago ...."you see what you wanna see, you hear what you wanna hear, and you do what you wanna do" ....

life is what YOU make of it ... you can concern yourself with others misfortunes, or not .... but YOUR life and direction are what YOU decide. ..... maybe your post was brought on by indigestion, or something you ate ... lol ....

go get some of that free canadien health care .... or maybe prozac ?

A LONG time ago I was gonna change the world and do something to show society how they should treat each other. Then life happened. A couple years of university, a wife, a kid, bills, car, etc... So instead of "fighting the man" I just gave up and joined the man. It sucks, but it happens. I would suggest that you find your calling and go after it. The real problem with society now (at least in the USA) is the stupid obsession with celebrity and reality shows. When a person can become famous because the sex tape they made was stolen and put on the internet, that's a sad, sad world. So, now I work my mindless job, love my family, and try to stay out of everybody else' way. Life.

One of things about society that irks me is when some people want to help the poor that are only poor because of their own doing/ their own lack of motivation. SOME, not all, are only trying to piggy-back through life without any effort at all.

Just a quick vent ;)

The reason it costs money to go to a university to learn is because it costs money to run a university! They can't just make it free, Mr. Marx.

Quite a number of European countries provide free University schooling (paid for by higher taxes). They seem to do a great job (based on my interactions with foreign students). The cost for a decent collage education is increasing at an insane rate here in the US, I don't know how we'll ever pay for education when my boys are older...

its not society you dont like its the human nature you dont like.
people have been acting this way for the longest time and thats why its up to YOU and only YOU to make something of yourself.
if everybody were equal and nice then you wouldnt be able to advance in the world. but that also doesnt mean you get to be rude which i believe is your point
