i have felt for a long time that the futuristic locusts that spewed fire were merely the new apache type choppers. they can look like great locusts.

The story of Sodom and Gammorah (spelling?) reminds me of a nuclear strike.
Maybe there was time travel involved in the telling these prophecies.

then how is lots wife turned into a pillar of salt?

did they taste said pillar?

Two things:

1. Not being a prophecy, but an observation of an unknown phenomena, does not necessarily have to be literal. If something happened that the author could not explain, for example.

2. I have no idea on the critters, if I'm totally honest. I just guess or speculate, and sometimes I'm wrong and update my theories to fit the new information.

I wasn't referring to tasers. Those are electrical and far more limited in distance.

I was referring to these:

I know what you meant. I'm just saying that a "ray gun" could be a taser. SWAT has a mass taser that can fire multiple tas lines into a crowd. It's called the Taser Shockwave.

Again, depending on what was seen in the future, and the person seeing it....

Anyone ever thought of this...... Church science historically taught that the earth was the center of the universe because the prophets had seen "stars" circling the earth.... what if those were actually satellites? And when "a third of the stars were swept from the sky," or whatever the phraseology is.... well, if you were a bible-times fisher watching futuristic satellites get swatted down by lasers and missiles, what would you think it was?

Maybe that's where the whole geo-centric thought came from.... people in the past, looking into the future seeing an incomprehensible technology.

Scare tactics to manipulate a cultures' population are nothing new.
Why are all the prophesies doomsday and never utopian?

As far as particular dates, there are at least six calendars in use today and I doubt that the Mayans gave a thought to how their calendar would compare to a different set of dates written by a Pope 600 years later.
I can just picture the Mayan craftsman who carved it saying "it ends there because I can't fit a bigger rock through the door"

If you believe the geologic record, this planet has gone through cataclysms and mass extictions. If you look at the moon, you can see impact craters the size of the Gulf of Mexico, I find it hard to reason that the moon would get hit but not earth.
Mankind may poison the planet and die in our own filth, or we could blow each other up. The planet could take a massive hit from space and wipe out 99% of all life and it would still keep rolling along.
End of Man, perhaps.
End of the world, no.

Yeah, see, but Earth has an atmospheric shield. Best asteroid defense EVAR. And science theorizes that the moon came from somewhere else -- for all we know, IT hit the ASTEROIDS on its way to its present orbit. Last, considering the length and breadth of space (infinite) and the volume (infinite^3), and the number of possible vectors in that space (infinite ^4), the fact that anything hits anything is nothing short of a miracle.

I predict that the Earth will be hit by Pluto during one of it's elliptical trips around the sun. That'll be it's revenge for us declassifying it as a planet.

I can just see it now.
