I just painted up my marker, and sprayed on a satin finish clear coat to protect it but it is way too shiny. Is there a way to dull down a shiny clear coat? I tried to find a matte or flat clear coat, but there was nothing at my local hardware store (spray paint).

The satin should dry to be a nice dull clear over top of your paint, what brand are you using?

It's been drying for 2 days now and although it has dulled up a little, it is still a bit shiny. I believe my clear coat is Rustoleum brand.

Would a light sanding with a fine grit do the trick? I have also heard that a light mist spray as a final coat after it has dried would create a matte texture. Anybody tried any of these?

You can try the fine grit sandpaper, but do too much and you might be starting over with your paint job.

I would try a light mist over the top and see what happens. Isn't going to hurt anything.

Just about any clear coat if applied to generously will bring it's sheen up to something more glossy. When using duracoats clear I always had to turn the feed down so it was a fine mist then did quick passes over the parts. Too much and it would of glossed up.

I agree with the post above (other then the sanding part... don't do that). Give it a fast spray from about 1 to 1 1/2 feet away. This will dust it up a bit and might be what your looking for. Your best bet though is to find some matte clear though. However I don't know how painting matte clear on top of satin clear would do, you would probably be ok though.

Good luck and post some pics when your done.
