I once saw some kind of a neoprene mask with built in goggles. I can't remember the name,brand, or even if it was a real paintball mask. If you plan on doing this then I would atleast reccomend using somekind of a neoprene ski mask.

my local field is very Close Quarters and I have taken a few close shots in the mask and didn't feel like there anything between me and the ball....so that feeling with just what made it through the vents...I'm not doing it.

It's been said many times already, but I'll repeat it.

Nothing aside from a mask made specifically for paintball is safe for the sport of paintball.

You need full face and ear protection. Cloth won't do it, a ski mask won't do it, and shop goggles won't do it.

Any kind of goggle/sunglasses/neoprene/baclava/shemagh combo should be worn for airsoft, not paintball. So rock a real deal mask system & play safe.

At the very least, the goggles themselves should be paintball certified for safety.
Other than that...

Having been hit numerous times in the bare face (pre 1990s) I can tell you that it sucks...hard. Never seen teeth knocked out, but Ive encountered a fair number of split lips & swollen noses.
Once masks became readily available, we all got 'em as fast as we could...for good reason.

If you want to go for the SWAT/Tactical look, you could try to find some of the old JT "whipper-snapper" masks that only cover the immediate front of the face. They're small enough to wear with a helmet & you can just pull a face cloth/balaklava over them for that oh-so-sexy SWAT look

Or if you want the intimidation factor, you could just get an entire stormtrooper outfit.

On a serious note, masks were implemented to keep you safe. So wear one and you will be good.

On that note I know exactly where you can find some whipper-snappers. It helps to be affiliated with a field that has been in operation since the 80's. As the times changed he put the old stuff in storage in his basement and garage. The good news for him is that with airsoft going the way it is in my area he has a new market group for some of the older paintball goggles.

Wow, that old pic of the guy wearing just shop goggles brings back alot of memories. That's how I got started 20 years ago. There was a little Arm/Navy store in Denison, Tx that held paintball games way out in the woods. They would load us up in big trucks and drive us out there. We all got a crappy pistol and shop goggles and however many tubes of paintballs you could afford. lol. It was still ALOT of fun but wow the gear has come a LOOONG way since then. That Army/Navy store is still open on Morton street in Denison, Texas.

I had a tree branch pull my goggles up just a little one time and got shot in the right side of my jaw. It hurt like you wouldn't believe. Turns out the guy ws shooting hot, about 330 FPS. I couldn't imagine getting hit in the mouth. OUCH!!
