I own a tippman x7 and I've allways wanted a dm6 or pm6 or any really. Heck I'd love one. But are they really worth the hype? Kinda like all I hear is ego this and that. Are the dm's and pm's worth the high cost?

I've heard they are nice but if i were you I would keep the X7 just because how cool they look and all the stuff you can do to it.

Well, they are a totally different cup o' tea.

I have had a 2010 PMR since October and i love it. They shoot really smoothly, quietly and don't have as much vibration as Tippmanns do.

They pretty much are good stock, so there is not much you need to do to them, all i have done was add a CP on/off and thats it. There isn't much you CAN DO to them. And recently i have gone back to my A5 and started modding it some more. Because i CAN.

I love to play with my PMR on the field, but my A5 always gives me something to do off or on the field. I love to tinker and change things and with a PMR thats not really an option, but with Tippmanns its unlimited what you can do to them.

I have to say that its all about personal preference. Go and shoot one and/or see if you can borrow one for a few games, but most definitely KEEP your X7. Its reliable and will always be there for back up. For me, my PMR is for smaller fields and big games; my tricked out A5 is for scenario play.

Your DM will shoot very quiet and smoother than an Ego/Etek, however, from my experience Ego's are pretty much bullet proof with the lowest amount of up-keep. An Ego will give you way more shots than a DM. Don't get me wrong, the DM's are great guns, but you have to give them some love with all those orings. If you really want a DM I'd save the money and get Proto Matrix.

I absolutely LOVE my PMR and wouldn't part with it for anything.

They are built with quality parts, and you get what you pay for. There are no cast parts like you would find on a Tippmann. The tolerances are tighter, and the performance is just better all around.

In the end they are quality made guns, that I personally believe are worth the price. And when I say all this I am referring to the PMR. The DM10 and all that stuff is overpriced if you ask me. You can get a new PMR (which now comes with a UL Frame) or get a used PMR without the UL and put one on it, and I promise you it will keep up with just about any high end gun up there.

Where are you playing, and what are you trying to play for?

If you're a recreational player, then the answer is "no".
If you're a amateur on the verge of being a professional, the answer is still "no".
If you're a professional that plays in the woods, you've hit the wonderful "no" with a slight bit of "except for a few cases".
If you're a professional that plays in tournaments, then the answer is "maybe". In this case, it depends heavily on: a.) Who sponsors you, b.) How comfortable the gun feels, and c.) How well you can control the gun.

The exception to this is the PMR (which is still technically a PM, I guess), which is just a good all-round gun.

I have an A-5 and a PM7. PM7 not as reliable, high maintenance, and so forth. Extra batteries and a good hopper are almost a most. My full set up is a PM7 with virtue board, RF chip, Halo v-35hopper, magna board for the halo, upgraded the trigger for a better feel. It's wonderful! It's fast and can be almost as accurate as my a-5 even though I have an Apex on it, but still if you are looking for intimidation you walk onto the field you usually get a little respect unless you speed ball then it's normal. Maintenance can be a pain, but that's what the internet is for to help with your problems. It depends if one you want to spend the money good set up could cost anywhere from $500-$1000. Two if you want light weight feel (metal triggers are light and fast); mini invert weighs like 3 lbs alone also very cheap I think it runs for about $300. Three the amount of money you want to spend on paint; you will find yourself going through about close to a case a day when I played with the A-5 for a day I would shoot close to 1000 for a full day (8 hrs) and PM7 would be anywhere from a case-1.5 cases maybe 2 depends on how you play. Eyes can be a pain from time to time in the hopper mainly. O-rings go faster.

I'd tend to pose the question in the opposite way. Are A5s and X7s worth the money when the vast majority of the upgrades are simply cosmetic? I mean, okay, I guess you look cool walking on the field with X7 that has a banana clip and a flashlight on it...but how will that help you win a game or capture a flag?

I'm new to Protos myself, and I do think a modded A5 or X7 is probably going to get the job done for the vast majority of players, but if you can get a used PM or DM and try it out, what's the harm? Resale is so low on most markers, you can probably pick up a DM6 or PM6 for about $100. Take a little time getting to know it...then try it out. But should you rush out and buy the latest DM? I wouldn't unless you just got so much money burning a hole in your pocket that you just can't stand it.

They call them high-end guns for a reason. I've seen more Tippmanns with serious problems than high-end guns. I loved my DM7 and I love my Ego7 now. If you want quiet, light, fast and accurate, a PM/DM is the way to go. There's a reason the pros don't use Tippmanns...

Dye's quality has gone down hill since 2008. Their quality control is horrible since moving most of it's production over to Taiwan.

Over half the shims stacked in the PM8 regs were done wrong. They've done two styles of bolts for the PM8 - Taiwan and US made. Even the NT had new mods come out for it because of numerous problems. Also I do not like the Hyper 3 reg. The Hyper 2 was much more consitant.

I have a PM7 and love it. I also have a sweet A5 and love that too. It really all depends on what kind of game you are playing and what is most comfortable for you. For me I play most games with my A5. It's fast, accurate (despite what some might say about A5's, mine is accurate), and it has a great camo finish. I love my PM7 for those CQB type stuff and if I'm feeling fast on my feet. A big problem I find with my tank on gun PM7 is how high profile it is. If I take a dive under the nearest bush and I need to return fire, the PM has to stick up way high in order for me to take some shots. With my A5 it hugs the ground with me.

I say get a PM or a DM and keep your X7. You might find out like I have, that they are both great tools for different jobs.

I can't speak to any Dye-specific quality control issues, but I will say that, in general, the so-called 'high-end' electros tend to be made to tighter tolerances, are lighter and smaller, shoot smoother and more efficiently, and have a few extra perks such as quality regulators, OLED boards, etc., when compared to less expensive markers.

So are these markers worth the cost, you ask? That's entirely subjective. Do the qualities of these markers fit with your personal preference - what you're looking for in a marker - and are they important enough to you to warrant the expense? Keep in mind that the value may decay quickly - it can be worse than buying a new car when you look at markers with yearly models: they often lose 25% or more of their value as soon as you open the box, and closer to 50% when the next year's model comes out.

My views may be totally irrelevant to your decision, but I believe in shooting what you like, regardless of what the pop culture may find appealing and somewhat regardless of cost. In the long run, gun costs pale beside paint and field fees, so shoot what's fun for you. Personally, I tend to prefer those 'high-end' qualities when I shoot an electro, but I also find that most new, mass-produced markers lack a certain intangible factor, a 'soul,' if you will, so I end up stuff that's a little less common. But to each their own.

you cant compare a x7 to a dm, a droid, a ego, luxe, etc. it just doesnt work that way. are they worth the hype? imho yes, i have a dm8, a droid, and a agd mag. do they shoot better than a x7? of course they do, there quieter, more efficient, faster, lighter, etc.

I just bought a PM6 as a backup for my Etek3 LT. It cost me $150. It's way smoother than my Etek Ego but it doesn't have the efficiency. I maintain my markers after every day of play and both are relatively easy. It's hard to say which marker is better, and that's impressive when you look at the $350 and 4 year difference...

i own all 3 among many others... i prefer my dm.. yes it is a bit of a air hog but so are tippy's. all of the proto's that i have are more air efficient than any of the tippys i own and that was straight out of the box.
egos are nice and i own a few but they are a little loud and expensive to fix the "hard parts".. but if you are playing speed-ball noise doesent matter..
what it all comes down to is how much you want to spend...
sugestion dont get a slg there has been some issues with them becouse of the bolts being made wrong
