The iPad was introduced today. What're people's thoughts on this? A worthless, oversized iPod Touch? Or a revolutionary piece for personal prosperity?

Or, here's Apple's site.

I wonder what the hard drive capacity on it is. I saw on the site that you can put Iwork on it and create documents and presentations. This looks like another winner from Steve Jobs and Apple.

Doesn't run OS X or something similar.

Sorry, it's basically an oversized iphone without the telephone.

And given the hardware reliability I've seen out of Apple products, I would not want to give any more money to them. Simply put, Apple products break - every single one I've touched has died within a year, and I have not been abusive to any of them.

I think it will replace most people's laptops. It seems that generally people have a laptop and a desktop and the laptop is more for entertainment and jotting things down, doing small tasks here and there. Exactly what the iPad was designed for. I noticed since I got my iTouch I dont carry my laptop everywhere around campus anymore since I can send email and look things up on the net as well as do calculations and all that jazz. An iPad would be soooo much more useful than either.

Lol exactly, that's just ridiclous. Better to just buy a netbook for $300 if you want a small computer. I really hate touch screen keyboards too.

As far as apple products go, they do break down fast from what i've heard.

Im not seeing the point in this.

Its an oversized itouch...im sure its equally, or more due to its weight, likely to break when you drop it. And itouch/iphone can do the same things basically and those little pocket pcs are cheaper and you get a real keyboard and such.

I just dont see an avg person using this I can think of alot of business applications for it but I dont see people just carrying this around, especially for the price/

I think I'd be a lot more optimistic about this if it had:
a. a bigger screen
b. more memory
c. open source wireless (because AT&T sucks everywhere around me)
d. lower price tag

I do like how it's a solid state hard drive, but everything else seems so "in between" that ultimately it could run the risk of being useless.

I like it, personally. Its aimed squarely at the netbook (Asus EEEpc and such) market, and stands to do fairly well there if it can deliver. Plus, it's geektastic.

And I disagree about Apple gear being fragile-I haven't left the house in over 5 years with an iPod on me somewhere, either my old Nano or my current Touch, and both have never failed me. Hell, I've played paintball with the Nano.

The old ipods were super durable...Nanos are too light to break when you drop them and there pretty hard to do anything else too, the touch is fragile if you dropped it there is a very high chance the screen would crack Iphones/Itouchs break all the time weather the casing cracks or the screen mine has held up well but buttons have broken off which is annoying and I take pretty good care of mine.

The Apple gear I've been around didn't typically break in the sense of physical damage to the outside.

The internal power source dies. You go to charge it one day and you can't.

Alternatively, the storage medium can fail. Seen that happen before too.

I will never own another Apple product of any sort.
