Ok, heres the situation...
Not really much to whine about, but It still sucks from my point of view.

I'm jumping into paintball big time this year (Times before this I didn't have the time to get into it, but I'm free on my schedule this year so I'll be hittin the sport head on). Deckin it out in all the stuff I need... So heres the list of stuff I need (NEED, yes NEED. Its not a Want basis here, I need these things.)

Heres a List of Stuff from Spec Ops:

Spec Ops Advanced Boonie Hat [Omnipat] $24.95 (Need Cover for my head)
Spec Ops Integrated Sling [Coyote] $15.95 (Can't carry the gun around all the time, this makes things easier)
Spec Ops Mask Cover [Omnipat] $12.95 (My mask is always giving me away... No matter what, I always hear "Yea man, your mask gave you away.")
Dead On A-5 Pro Seal $35.95 (My Bolt broke once last season, and it made me mad.)
Tippmann/Spec ops A-5 Flattop Rail $14.95 (... Ok so I don't REALLY need this, but I might later on for a Red Dot, which isn't on this list because its too expensive as it is.)

This all levels out to $115.22

Ok now, I needed New Boots:

Magnum Vipper II 8" Water Proof Boots $105.00 (According to Recon, they are cheap, but effective.)

From Black Hawk:

S.O.L.A.G. Special Ops Full Finger Light Assault Gloves $44.99 (Recon also recommended these, and I need gloves, BADLY. Got hit so many times in the hand.)
Advanced Tactical Knee Pads V.2 $24.99 (I have Joint pains in my knees because of my growth spirts and stuff. Doc told me to wear knee pads when I played so it wouldn't damage anything, so yeah.)
Total of all that: $74.17
So far's Total: $294.39

Finally, this is the huge Kick in my ace...

Tippmann A-5 M4 Gass Thru Mag $84.99 (I kind of need this, but not to bad. I'd want it more for cosmetics then anything.)
A-5 Flatline Kit Plus RIS Shroud $194.98 (Need a new barrel cause I still got the Stock one on mine. Plus I hear flatline's are the best, especially for my position.)

This is $279.97.
All together, I get a nice price Tag of: $574.36

Yeah. GOOD NEWS: I have $200 of it from X-mas.
I still have to get $375 of it though.

Bad news:
No way to get any money
No Car
No Job
Need a car to get to school, job, paintball, and home. (Cause I'm talking tens of miles inbetween these places.)
Have no money to get car myself.
Mom promised me a car, yet she will doubtfully get me one cause she's just a major beach. People who think I'm just sayin that... I'm not, really.
Birthday coming up will be my only source for money, which will maybe give me $150 more, if that.

Solutions Anyone? I'm taking all the help I can get. (Use the poll or Txt it. Doesn't really matter.)

Wow, that's quite the laundry list! Don't forget, it's the person under all that gear that makes the difference, not the gear itself. B)

I'd say this no matter what you're spending money on (and I'm sure there are worse things...):

Walking > job > car > money for paintball gear (Or paintball gear THEN car since you can't drive yet  )

(Oh, and I hope that "Nag your mom until she gets a car to get a job" one was a joke - why should she fund your hobby?)

Save your money, work constantly, sell stuff at school, stop complaining, save up to get a car for YOURSELF(when you turn 16), get a JOB, and then see if paintball is still important. I was the same way at one point in time, I had a bad mom, a mean father, and a horrible life, then I found out how awesome it was to have a car when your 16 and how the girls flock towards you. After that you have to find a job good enough for you to afford an apartment. Then your hobbies kinda fly out the window because you have to pay bills and enjoy the p... . . . paintball guns. >.>

So in the end. Play with what you got. The only gear you should need is:
marker
hopper
mask
barrel cover
air tank
shoes
pants
shirt
and balls of course lol

I was 17 before I got a marker that wasn't from walmart, your lucky kid, believe it or not.

I'd say get a job nearby where you live (unless you live in the country). Once you get a job you won't care so much about paintball cuz you'll be working all the time. If you live too far away from any potential workplaces, find a job near your school and then try and get rides from your mom after work. Or you could do what I did when I was 15, ride your bike. I got a job at Taco Bell, rode my bike there and back for 14 months to buy a truck, and now I'm happy as can be.

I don't think expecting your mom to buy you a car is a good idea. Cars are expensive, so you're probably on your own.

And Xakk, since when do girls flock to somebody who has a vehicle? Where I'm from at least 80% of guys in high school have trucks (no cars, just trucks), so it' really nothing special. If your getting your license to get girls than don't bother.

Well, the thing is she promised me a car, but her liability of getting me one is slim cause she tends to go back on her word alot with things, no offense to other people out there that have better moms then me, or have better morals concerning respecting their parents, still. Your word is your word.

As for bad parents, some people will know where I'm coming from. The woman makes $80,000 a Year and gets $500 in Child Support every month (Which my father would provide me with a car, but he's a trucker for FedEx, and can't afford one for me, especially since $500 comes out of his check a month.) How can you NOT afford a Used Car?

And Shes not funding my hobby, she's funding a car so that I can get a job to start my life as a productive member of society and fund my own hobbies.
I will be able to drive in about 3 or 4 weeks. Birthday's in Feb.

Thanks for the input though. I Appreciate it as far as what and what not to get. I'm probably going to end up redoing this list I have now. A couple things I might keep, take the mask cover off. Maybe get it later on when I have cash to burn.
The sling will stay though cause that flatline will add a few pounds, plus the equipment I already have on my gun.

I hate to sound like a jerk, but man up dude.

If you need to do odd jobs for cash, do odd jobs for cash. If you gotta buy your own car, then do that. Do what you gotta do. And realize that all this gear you have listed as a "need" isn't. When I played, it was a mask, t-shirt and jeans, a marker (with tank and hopper of course), my work boots, and a belt pack or harness for my pods. Just as long as you have the basics, you can play fine. Once you have the basic gear, the problem becomes more a software issue than a hardware one.

I saw "my position" mentioned. Dude, your "position" is wherever is not getting you shot and getting you an angle. As useful as defined roles gat on a team, other than planning your basic paint loadout, they are kinda useless. You are a heavy suppressor guy, carry more paint. You aren't, carry less.

You don't need a gas through mag or a rail shroud. A basic Flatline system, an APEX barrel, or any barrel of decent quality is sufficient. You need extra range, aim higher.

Sounds to me like you've read a little too much an are seeing things as more important than they are. The only gear you need to be an effective player is a mask, and that gray stuff between your ears. A marker helps though. You don't "need" gear to make you a better player. You need to play to become a better player. Trust me, some of the best players I've know used some of the simplest, most basic gear. No slings, rails, and heads were covered with a $3 bandana.

Alright, alright, its cool.

I think I get the point, I sound like a wimp sayin I need this stuff. Its not a Necessity, its just how I figured I would play out the game. I plan on turning this into a life sport, so I was thinkin I could just get what I could when I could. Don't mean to make it seem like I'm whining. I enjoy the sport overall and stuff, and sometimes the gear can make the player better. Not always, but still. Sometimes It can really help out.

Plus, admittingly, I'm fricken spoiled lol. Grew up in a rich family, then we get dumped out our asses when my mom moved to WV. Not really any work like there is in Atlanta, so I make with what I got, I just try and make with what I can get. So, no harm, no fowl.

I'm always one for gathering what you need through rather frowned upon means  Hence the name.
Here's what you do. Get off the computer and go look for people that need help with stuff. What are you good at? (Sorry, I didn't really read all the thread...it's 0430 and I'm supposed to be finishing a paper due at 0930. Do odd jobs and make a little cash. Sell stuff you don't need. While we're talking about stuff you don't need, I'm about to trim your shopping list.

Boonie Hat - Cut it. Wear a hat you have laying around.
Sling - No. I don't even use one on my SAW'd out A5, and that thing weighs like 20 pounds.
Mask Cover - No. 1: You'll fog up faster than London, San Fran, and Seattle combined. 2: It's extra money you don't have.
Seal - Ok, you have a legit need here.
Flat-Top Rail - Skip it. You don't need that Red Dot either.

Total - $36

Boots - Yeah, Magnums are boss goods. They're also not cheap. I got some 8" Bates boots for $70, and they're just now starting to show ware after a good 4 years.

Total - $115 (or so. And I'm counting all the other prices in the totals)

SOLAG Gloves - You're not busting down doors and clearing villages. These things are nice, no doubt, but they're excessive. You can get some decent paintball gloves for half the price.
Kneepads - There's not much you can do here to keep the quality level and cut the price.

Total - $165

Stock - Personally, I'd say just get the base stock and run the remote through the ASA. Save some money, then later get the upgrade kit.
Flatline with crazy rails - Are you attaching lights and junk on here? You need one rail, max. You can buy a rail for $20 and put it on yourself. I did that on my flatline and the thing has lasted me for 5 years. Also, get the Flatline used if you can, or get an Apex (used)

Total - ...screw it I lost count. $350, $400 tops.
Now you only need $150-$200.

In all honesty, if you're scraping to get the money for your gear, then now's not the time to be jumping full in to paintball. Don't be like a guy I know, who was always buying newer, more expensive gear but NEVER playing cause he didn't have the money. Be the guy with the couple year old gun, good enough/alright gear, and playing twice a month or so. Then, when you get a job down the road and have money, upgrade your stuff to what you've always wanted. Keep the old gear around to take friends or to loan out to people who need stuff.

There is a difference between cars and trucks. At my high school(way back when) I was one of 3 guys who owned their own car(mind you there were other guys borrowing their moms SUVs and such). We all street raced, constantly getting into trouble, but we would have races every Friday night, guess who came to the races. Girls and lots of them. Ill be honest, it wasnt no Fast&Furious, retarded stuff going on. But we would have about 6 people from neighboring schools come out and race against us. It was fun and us 9 or so guys got to mingle with 14 or so girls. Then after the races we would go party. Thus why Im trying to explain that paintball is everything when your 15, but as soon as he turns 16, that is liable to change.

Oh yeah, going mudding gets women too! Especially in Louisiana....

I also fully agree that playing with old equipment more often is better than playing with good equipment less often! +1

Quote

sometimes the gear can make the player better.

Never is that EVER true. The player does not change. The gear can hold the player back, but it will never make him better. In fact, by holding him back, it does make him better because in the event that he gets good equimpent that doesnt break all the time, he will be prepared.

Ive seen countless noobs walk on the fields carrying a fully loaded A-5, trash talking my 3 year old Ion and I just laugh, because as soon as we get on the field, all bets are off. He wont even get a chance to use that red dot sight or his flatline barrel because Ill just run up to his bunker without taking a single shot and then walk past him and unload on him. They never see it coming.

Tippmann A-5 M4 Gass Thru Mag $84.99 (I kind of need this, but not to bad. I'd want it more for cosmetics then anything.)
