i agree completely on the chrono thing. first of all, the bag was off before they put it under the net, and anyone could have accidentally shot while doing that. second, i have seen paint shells go through netting, and theyre sharp and can still cause serious damage. and third, if the net isnt secured down, a ball would just push it out of the way.

Yea, dirty local XBall players will shoot the net near coaches so paint will get in their eye and theyre leery of coaching or getting close enough to the net to see everything. Same goes for shooting their hands if they're pressing in. If theyre inside the net coaching, they just get shot a lot.

*yawn* whatever. I think I'm just going to remove this site from my bookmarks. It seems every time I post something here all I get is criticism from the elitists. Apparently you are all too good to just say "hey that was pretty neat" without pointing out something us backwoods hicks are doing wrong. You know what, screw all of you people.

lol... tragic loss, eh?

the thing is, our main priority is paitnball, and yours should be too. if we see a potentially very bad thing, we're going to point it out. if you notice, we did say 'cool' too, but we also made suggestions for how it could be better.

you havent had a safety issue yet... great, youve been lucky. ive seen enough bad things happen in chrono areas where masks ARE required as a ref to know that chronoing without a mask is a bad idea

So how would you voice safety concerns?

That's all I'm seeing here.

I watched most of the clip. Not bad, but better lighting in the field for spectating purposes would have been nicer.

I would rather have one less person on this forum than one less person playing paintball because of some lack of safety.

Well sorry for being concerned with safety. How extremely wrong of me.

Chrono areas hell, try tech booths. Hard and fast rule of thumb is that if it's supposed to be a 'safe' area without even dry firing being allowed, if it isn't enforced by a pack of rabid junkyard dogs, it'll become unsafe in about a half second.

I've learned to just keep my mask on a carabiner on my belt when I go to the field. I've damn near lost my eye to folks handing me markers they swear up and down don't need a BBD because (insert reason here) more than enough that now when I'm working tech with the door open, I just wear my mask. Or the air station, for that matter. and the chrono booth (which is on field and requires mask down... even when I'm the only one in the damn store shooting into the chrono/clearing barrel.... frikkin CCTV)

We ran to the sounds of the thunder.
We danced among the lightning bolts,
and tore the world asunder.

If the original poster is still about:

Nice that you / your local site got on TV. Nice bit of publicity.

However on the safety issues, even dry firing without a BBD can be dodgy, (But this could just have been a TV moment)

There is the risk of accidentaly firing something you did not know was there, air alone can do harm (see below), and it can give the impresion to someone who has not checked that it is OK to fire their marker

Not wearing goggles when chronoing is a risk, even in a barrel with netting. But at least there was no hopper so only one or two paintballs could be loaded. An accidental shot at someone without goggles could happen. I would assume that unless this was a TV moment that this is a staff chrono area. But safety first hould be the order of the day. Goggles on or BBD at any time air or CO2 is on a marker.

Even here in the UK where we have a better safety record (as it is not normal to have unsupervised back yard paintball), a marshall was blinded in one eye by the supervisor shooting just CO2

Accidents happen - But keep a regime of safety to minimise the risk
