Product: Special Ops F.O.G. four rail foregrip system

Period of Use: less then one month

Simular Products Used: JCS 4 rail Flatline shroud, Opsgear Raider M4 Handguard

Strengths:
-Locks into A-5 the same way a Flatline does.
-Free floating, no wear on barrel.
-Easy to assemble and install.
-High quality aircraft alluminium construction.
-Looks cool.
-Fits most barrels

Weaknesses:
-Does not work with A2 kit
-Rails are cheap plastic
-Big gap between back of forgrip and front of A-5
-No grip on surface of locking nut.

Review: Ok, Id like to start by saying that this is the smartest foregrip system on the market and deserves much praise. Now with that said I have to be objective and tell you what I didnt like. To start I own a A-5A2, I wanted to use both at the same time, Well you cant use an A2 foregrip with this barrel shroud due to the fact that theres not enough clearance. Now i wasnt about to compromise so i took the F.O.G. into my ship and put it on a laith (prolly not spelled right but oh well) and took down the stepped back. Well it still didnt fit right so I next dremeled a bigger arch into the front of my A2 foregrip and now everything fits fine.

The next issue i ran into was the rails. I wanted to put a vertical front grip on the F.O.G. bottom rail. As I went to bolt the grip to the rail the rails just bent. They are a cheap plasic in my opinion. Fortunaitly for me I have a JCS 4 rail shroud on my Flatline that has alluminium rails. I just swopted rails and bingo second problem fixed. On the other hand if youre only going to use them for light wieght lasers or tac lights im sure itll be sufficient. But if youre going to mount a Vert grip or a Scepter 4000U youre going to want a more heavy duty rail. Now the last thing Id like to see better with a next gen F.O.G. is some grip on the locking nut that holds it all together, its about a 1/4 in. thick smooth faced nut. Its hard to get ahold of to tighten or loosen, needs a gripping type surface. Im actually going to see if i cant find something at Home Depo.

Now some of the good, the design is genius, it actually locks into your marker the same way your Flatline does, and your barrel screws into the F.O.G. theres absoluty no stress or wear on the barrel. Besides the rails, the rest of it is made out of strong T6 alluminium and will definately take a beating. It looks awesome if youre into the Mil-sim look as I am. It fits most barrels with a 1 in. of smaller diameter. ive used it with a Hammerhead Battle Stickxx, CP one piece classic, and A-5 stock barrels and all fit fine.

Conclusion: This is a smart alternitive to the bolt on barrel systems, be warned it wont work with your A2 front grip without some modifying and the rails are not meant for heavy loads.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

Thank you for this review. It's complete and, IMHO, not biased. I think it also answered my question about whether you could use the F.O.G. with a flatline. My understanding, from your review, is "No, the F.O.G. and flatline do not work together." Please let me know if I have misinterpreted your review.

I was looking into the F.O.G. system but I think I'll hold off for awhile yet.

Thank you for your time and hard work.

Maintainence" should be routine. (cleaning and lubrication) In all fairness, most "maintainence" " problems" can be avoided by getting it set-up right and leaving it alone. (true for most any paintgun) Something that I have learned over the years it that, "The more that you mess with it, the more you will have to mess with it."

No problem, I wanted this to be a thorough review. And yes youre correct, the F.O.G. wont work with a Flatline, but theres good news. Theres a cheaper solution if you own a Flatline. The JCS 4 rail Flatline shroud works just as good, you can get the plan, ported or slotted versions in the Specops store. just make sure you get the ones with the alluminium rails and not composite. They dont hold up well to heavier loads.

In the weaknesses section, you said that there was a big gap between the back of the forgrip and the front of the A-5. Could you elaborate a little more on that part?

sure, what i ment was that the base of the F.O.G. doent sit very close to front of the marker. its about a 1/3in. gap. the barrel adaptor is a bit long. its hard to explain, but think of the flatline barrel, ok the barrel adaptor screws into your marker right? and when its set the flat back of the base plate sits flush with the A-5 reciever. its not a problem, its just looks a lil funny. im not sure if my explaination is very good so later tonight ill post pics of the gap and the mods i had to do to make it work with my A2 front grip. and hopefully Specops will make a front grip that fits it.

Ok, thanks, that clears it up. I had a general picture of what you meant, but I wanted to be sure.

The gap you're referring to, I'm pretty sure that's intentional. The FOG system seems to be based fairly closely on M16/M4 handguards, and if you look at those hand guards, there is I think about a half inch or so clearance to allow for the slip ring to be pulled back. So at least as far as I can tell, its a design feature, not a weakness persay.

im not disagreeing with you, you could be exactly right, it was something i didnt really care for so i felt it was a weakness, some could think the porting is a weakness. its all personal preferance. when i did the review i wanted to be as fair and unbiased as possable. nothing i wrote should be taken as the final evaluation of this product, its just my view of it. when i put the F.O.G. on my marker the gap was the first thing that i noticed. I thought wow that kinda looks funny. overall i think the F.O.G. is a great product. and out of all the things good and bad that i listed the "gap" should be the last thing to worry about.

I understand, I was simply putting my two cents out there. I wasn't saying that you were wrong or anything like that, everybody has their own opinion. I was making an observation, not a judgement, since I haven't used the thing.

Hey Jester,

In your pics of the F.O.G. Foregrip it looks as though the delta ring is completely smooth whereas in the pics of them in SpecOps' catalog shows it has ridges, did you mod it that way or does it come smooth like that? Any info would be great!

Thanks,
-Commander-

Does anybody here have experience with both OpsGears Raider Handguard and the F.O.G? I'm thinking of getting rid of this Raider, if the F.O.G is worth it.

Yeah i did that myself, i put it on a laith to make it like that. i was hoping that it would bring it down enough so i wouldnt have to mod my front grip, but it didnt. I actually like the look of it smooth better. but thats just me.

I do have both and the F.O.G is better but the raider has tougher rails.
