I kinda like star trek now, my mom made me watch "the next generation" with her, like 2 seasons....

they made a new star trek movie with a young Spoc and a young James T. Kirk, and all the cast .. like a prequel to the original series. anywhoo, that movie has been playing on cable TV, and that is what i was watching. They did an amazing job with the young Spoc and "Bones" McCoy, imo.

I liked the newer one too. Im pretty sure that it's a different timeline from the original too, and that's how they are going to have a series of movies from it.

Yea. My dad thought it was stupid, but he's not one for change... Or anything creative for that matter.

Passed my Concealed Handgun test, just got to take it to the Courthouse on Monday, pay their fees, and wait for them to process my actual license.
Also, got the job at the Irish Pub, so I'm on my way out of the crap at my other job. Gonna keep a few shifts there, just for the extra money.

My job is to be an asshole. I excel at the position.

So wife and I were chatting about the end of the world. She wants to prep a bit for it. Store water and food and catfood. OK we can do that. But we have no guns. And due to taking certain meds for years and seeing a shrink for depression for years I am ineligible to ever own a gun in this state. :- understandable. I wouldn't want a crazy person with a gun either

So I was thinking...I want a crossbow. That would be legal and require no fee. I asked the wife and surprisingly she said "**** YEAH!M! But you need to get LOTS of bolts." Soooo I guess that means I get to buy a cross bow and be like Daryl on walking dead. XD WIN. Now...tough part. .. I know nothing of this type of stuff. But there is an archery store in town many people recommended. Any brands I should look for for people who use these regularly? And I can't shoot a normal bow to save my life. Have tried before

Sent from my cat's brain...using telepathy.

...this just sounds like a bad idea...I wouldn't put a crossbow in legatos hands...

@legato, it shouldn't be any different than buying your paintball gear. you should go there and try out what they have and see what feels or fits right.there are different sizes and lengths for people with shorter arms or longer arms. Make sure you are comfortable with "cocking" it. There is a specific way to pull it back before you load it. Make sure you can do that. And you can get different kinds of bolts for different targets and flight and game. But a good start would be to go to that sporting goods store people were recommending. If nothing else, they can give a better recommendation for a better specialized shop, or maybe an individual.

I hear Excalibur makes the toughest damn crossbows in the world. But they cost a pretty penny. They're like the Glock/AK of the crossbow world.

Sportsman's Guide has quite a listing of various crossbows, from basic plinkers to serious hunting rigs. My advice, get one based off a recurve. It's simpler to tune, maintain, and repair. And it can fire wooden bolts more safely. The cam action of a compound puts more stress on bolts, and can shatter wooden ones.

I'm looking at a traditional bow right now (so I can get my Robin Hood on), but a crossbow is right behind that on the list of pointy stick flingers. Might even get that crossbow first, looks like there aren't a whole lot of places that build longbows or recurves for a 30-31" Draw length. EDIT: Nevermind. Just rechecked, and it looks like my draw length is closer to 28-29".

I got sick of editing, so I slapped up a DP. Forgive me.

Barnett crossbows are supposed to be very good values for the price. Might wanna look at those.

Oh, and Legato, trying it at a Ren Faire doesn't count. No one can shoot well on a gut full of turkey legs and mead.
