Help
i have been told recently that wd-40 shouldn't be used for oiling markers, because it ruins the o-rings. This came as a shock to me, as i have been using it to lubercate my old metal ribbed 98 and have had no o-ring failure( i clean and oil it after every game). As you can imagine this has me puzzled, please share your opinion.

Don't use it, ever. Use Gold Cup oil or whatever it's called for oiling markers. Basically use paintball gun oil and only paintball gun oil, although I've heard some pneumatic tool oil is just as good.

WD-40 is not a good choice for paintball markers. You've been lucky so far.
I would use either paintball marker oil or air tool oil. Some paintball oils are just air tool oil anyway.
As an example of air tool oil in paintball, the oil PPS ships with their gear is just air tool oil. I have verified this over with the PPS owners on POG (used to be run off of the paintmagazine forum, not sure where they are now) a long time ago.

Its not like WD40 will instantly disolve the rings, but it will cause them to wear out quicker. Same goes for any petroleum based lube.
Pretty much any other lube works fine - lithium or silicone based.
I like Gold Cup or Shocktech Gun Butter.

Yeah, WD-40 eats rubber bits. The 98 will work with about 40% of its seals gone, and has such sloppy tolerances that you can't really hurt it.
