Incorrect. Someone TRIED to patent it. Someone being Smart Parts. The Invert Mini already had been released, as had the SL68-II and just about every other gun that used it since 1985. Thus, the Victory and Mini are paying no royalties.

IC...actually makes sence why they started raising in popularity. Trend is coming full circle again!

That said: I highly doubt it will be faster. I do, however, anticipate smaller size and greater efficiency. If I had to redesign the Droid, for example, I'd chop half that bolt to shreds and replace it with something similar to the G3, but with a secondary spool like the Droid has.

To look just at the Droid as the platform, and how it could be improved, the fundamental issue is size and complexity. The 'sleeve' to carry all the internal components, passages, etc is just enormous by modern standards. The shutoff spool that resides behind the bolt spool is a great design, but could be wrapped a few ways to really improve recharge rates and still shut off the flow, all while allowing for a more compact package that would be more similar in size to a GEO, or PMR at very biggest. I actually have some really nifty ideas on how to 'tweak' it, but I should keep them under wraps, as they aren't entirely MY ideas, but more shared concepts.

And here I thought you were ghoing to wave the "toolless tear down" and "better milling" flags!

If they make paintball markers any smaller... It'll be annoying and uncomfortable. they just need to focus on simplicity and efficiency right now, speed and weight is so trivial nowadays.

If MD is releasing a new marker, should I wait to buy a Borg? I'm considering a Borg and found one for $300 (used, 2006) but I'm wondering if I should hold off on this purchase since I would assume a new MD marker could kick down the prices of used Borgs even more. Of course I guess that would only be happening if they released a new Borg. Or something. I don't know.

Oof. That is a tough call. No matter what time is the factor for prices falling.

Everytime they release a gun the prices on the other guns do go down, just not right away.

Plus the prices for the older Borgs have pretty much stabilizied. Unless you find a basket case I am not too sure they will keep going down.

Hmm, I guess if I can still get it I'll probably pick it up. I'm not really into too many of the modern-day manufacturers, they all seem identical to me, besides MacDev. From what I've seen online though, $300 seems like a decent price, no?

Yes, it is not overly priced and a fair market value.

New MacDev Marker: Tactical Drone

For years now MacDev have made high end markers for use in tournament paintball. The designers at MacDev have now made a new marker specifically designed for use in scenario paintball.

Construction
The Drone is CNC machined from solid Aluminium billets, without castings or cheap plastic parts, you will receive the same quality expected from MacDev high end tournament markers.

Pneumatic Drive
The Tactical Drone is based on a simplified, valveless version of the popular Droid marker of 2008, however it has enough changes to the drive system to make it a new design in its own right.

The pneumatic drive is fed by the next generation of inline regulator, the new Gladiator RX2. The new inline boasts industry leading flow, recharge, reliability and ease of maintenance.

Electronics
The board inside the Drone is based on the Cyborg RX electronic platform, however programming and feedback is achieved via a chameleon LED housed in the rear of the grip frame. A powerful microprocessor achieves lightning fast firing response and allows the user to access fire modes and select fire options.

Limitless Potential
Add-ons for the Drone will give almost limitless combinations and customisation to your marker, the Drone is the perfect platform for your ideal scenario machine-gun.

Key Specifications
Length,Width, Height (with Barrel) 475mm/225mm/45mm Power 9V Alkaline
Weight (with Barrel/no Barrel) 1056g/961g Barrel Thread AutoCocker
Propellant Compressed Air/N2 Included Barrel 12" 0.693 bore
Air Efficiency 1400+ rounds per 68/4500psi

The Tactical Drone is tentatively set for release at the end of July 2009.

Valveless Droid? So it's a Threshold/ Hollowpoint/ Rev-I/ Ion/ Crome clone? Ewww. I mean, yes, the design can be tweaked to be downright excellent. I don't see this being excellent, though. At all. I see it being mundane, unneccesarily 'dressed up', 'faster and easier to maintain', but less efficient, less smooth, louder, and just overall a disappointment. MacDev dropped the ball on this one, hard, is my preliminary guess. I could have seen so many more interesting routes for them to take.

That said, at very least 'valveless' means it is most likely not a Matrix/Shocker clone, which I can appreciate. ...so why is it so long?

Oh, and I just checked the specs again. 1400 shots per 68/4500 fill. That's freakin abysmal for a gun released at the $1k pricetag, in 2009, manufactured by a company that knows how to set a dwell. I hope they realize I have a blowback that can do that, and an electro that can do that on a 45/4500. And my electro is 5 years old, and bone stock.
Feedback.
