I'm bored, so ladies and gentlemen, I present you with this:

I've been paintballing for a years, mainly in the woods, and I got a M16/AR15 type set up for my tippmann 98. It's served me well for a number of years, but I want a marker that I can use in the woods or on a speedball field.

Now that I moved to AZ, and go to a field regularly, with smaller fields, my stock and remote line can get in my way.

My friends all want me to get a tourney gun, which costs 500+ bucks....
That'd be nicer to play with on the field, but I still want a kind of milsim marker. Pretty much something compact with a high ROF, but I could put sights on if I wanted to.

I was thinking about the Spyder MR3. The youtube reviews rate highly, but people at the store advise against it.

Then there's also the Smart Parts SP1, but the feed blocks your sight... And I don't really like A5s or X7s..., and none of that mag fed stuff. What's the point.

So, any recommendations on a new, affordable milsim marker that meets these conditions?
High ROF on semi (prefer a walkable trigger)
Affordable (less than $350)
Reliable and easy to maintain
compact & comfortable

BT TM7

I dont think they have double triggers out yet for them, but this is small, fast, milsim, and decent internals

they are about $400 right now, but can be found cheaper on B/S/T forums http://www.ansgear.com/BT_TM_7_Paintball_G...aintballgun.htm

oh and btw do NOT get a spyder, you will only regret it!

I'm not really seeing whats wrong with an SP-1, it has rails on the side, or you could mount an off-set rail on top, if you really, really, need a red-dot. You said that you don't really want a stock, but yet you want a mil-sim marker. To me, a stock is really the only advantage to a mil-sim marker. I've found that when I have a red-dot on my marker, the stock usually gets in the way, unless I fold it, and then I never really use the red-dot anyways. Your friends are recommending an tourney gun, but you could easily buy one for less than $500, such as the G3 and the Proto SLG, both of which are $300, or the new SLG Basic for $200 (same gun, just a plastic composite body instead of aluminum) . Of course, you would need to make room in the budget for a decent hopper, but you would need that anyway if you're going for high ROF. My suggestion, see if you can play a game or two with a tournament style marker and see if your comfortable with it. If you don't like it (or just can't find anybody to let you use their gun), go with the SP-1, and see if you can use it without the use of a red-dot. If you can't, buy a cheap off-set mount for $20.

Just curious, what kind of marker are your friends recommending?

EDIT: Oh and I couldn't quite tell from your post, but I got a hint of the old, "You can only use Speedball guns on the Airball field" saying, so just making sure you didn't think that. Maybe I just suck at reading and interpreting, whatever.

I say go with the MR3 or MR2. Have one and it has never let me down, and I beat the crap out of it. I use it as a loaner/back up marker now. Not really sure why people hate spyders. any way I like mine.

Or you could go with a BT4 with an e trigger and rip clip. My wife has one, greta marker, she runs it with the bottle on and use an few different barrels with it. Here it is with a tippman straight shot, and red dot.

BT mechs are basically the same thing as a Tippmann so I don't think he would want one of those. Spyders aren't as hight quality as they could be. I would go with a Tac-One, TM7, or maybe even the Tiberius gun, whatever its called.

The T9...Very nice marker. thats what i replaced my spyder with. Only thing is he wants a higher ROF and under $350. Thats why i said BT4.

Spyders aren't too bad, especially the MR series. They're just built cheaply. For a stacked tube blowback that means that they have some long term reliability issues. The metal used on the hammer and sear tend to be cheap, so they tend to wear quickly giving them that infamous double shot or sporadic full auto effect you see on a lot of highly used rental markers. They're tolerances are also somewhat low which contributes to poor consistency even on blowback standards. For what you pay for an MR-1 it's a pretty good deal, but when you start looking at MR-2s and MR-3s I think they start to loose their value. You're a lot for the electronics which would be better suited on a different marker base that had them engineered into its original design rather than strapped on.

BT's TM-7 might be exactly what you are looking for. It's basically a tournament marker packed in a mil-sim body. On the inside its extremely similar to an Invert Mini. They're very small, pretty lightweight, and a very well engineered. The regulator is built into the grip so there's no external air line, and the regulator itself does a pretty good job of giving the marker superior consistency. I believe it can fire a max of 20bps on full auto.

Smart Parts's SP-1 is another option if you would like to save a little bit of money. Unlike the TM7 they can use CO2. They're a bit more cheaply made, and max out at 11bps before modification.

Just to throw it out there, Get Real Paintballs' At-4 and AT-85 are other option if you're looking for something milsim that is more rare and is mechanical. They're a bit pricey, but they are well worth it for the quality and unique appeal. They're one of the last remaining Nelson-based pneumatic markers. They are excellent performers.

The BT TM-7 is the clear cut winner here. It is an invert mini in a diferent body, this setup is superior to that of any spider or tippman on the market. Its got an adjutable stock, several rails, and great ROF.

You pretty much described one when you said what you wanted. Its compact and packs a mean bite.

All the other guns mentioned above are low ends (doesnt mean they arent good guns, just not the same level) but the tm-7 is not.
