I just recently picked up a used BT-4 Assault for my brother-in-law to use since he really liked mine, but I don't want him to use the one I bought new as he is careless with other peoples stuff. Anyways, it's a 06' model and damn does it have major overspray inside the receiver. I figured I'd polish it, but polishing my first BT took forever, and it didn't have near as much overspray. So, I'm wanting to know if I can tape up the outer side of the claim shell and anything else I don't want to polish, then use a sand blaster to quickly take off the excess paint, and finally finish it up with a little polishing compound and elbow grease. Or will using a sand blaster really mess things up?

The thing is, I don't really want to invest a lot of time, money, and effort into this marker since it is going to be primarily used by someone who is notorious for being very hard on things and I'd hate to invest a load of cash and countless hours of hard work, only for it to be broken the first time it's used in a game. I'm not saying it is just going to get broken right off the bat, but if there is even the slimmest chance that something can break, Terry would be the one to make it happen.

So nobody knows if a sand blaster will mess things up or not? I guess I'll just have to suck it up and spend more time using steel wool then, oh well.

I would be afraid of trying a sand blaster. A dremel works well though.

I was reading the Polished Internals sticky and everyone said NOT to use a dremel. I've never actually polished my A-5 (although I will in a couple weeks when I get bored from being off) but I would stick with the steel wool... but like I said, I've never done it so maybe a dremel does work.

all you need is paint remover. Or you can use 0000 grade or 000000 grade steel wool to remove the overspray. Just remember you are trying to remove overspray, not reshape the body. You cannot fix any imperfections in the metal, leave them alone. Then take some Mother's Mag aluminum polish, can get at walmart for $5 a tin (which is enough for many markers) and polish the hell out of it til it glistens. Use rubbing alcohol in between coats to clear out any excess gunk.
