Ok i'll put some backround to it first. So i go and buy a ton of WWII stuff off ebay helemets,canteens,canteen cups/covers,footlocker, and other stuff all from African theatre and european theatre. Well it all arrives and its a footlocker with Three helemets one medic helemet american, one regular helmet american, and a african campaign helemt. Then three canteens one african two european. Both european ones were in cloth covers and then cups around them. Then i had a backpack and some other things all for about 100$. Anyways i get them and i pull one of the canteens out of its cover and it comes out with ease. Then i pull the other out and i look inside the cover and theres a canteen cup inside it. So after about 5 minutes of tugging the cup comes out and when i look at it i was amazed all over the cup was names of places this soldeir had gone all carved in with a knife he also had his name and unit number but i have never found anything. Heres all the stuff carved on the canteen cup: Pompei,Rome,Maddeloni,Africa,Algira,Sicily,Oran,Philaipa,Malta,Naples,Otto,Aversa,Bagnola,Mt.Combila,Strait Of Mafisina,Pantelleria,Caserta,Arzew,Italy,Casablanca,Isle of Capree. Just got some new info on the canteen. A man contacted me via e-mail about my canteen cup and said his father kept a journal of his experience of the war. His father was in 85th Div 337 infantry. In the journal it mentioned Sweeney who went by the nickname "Big Picture". According to the journel he was a great guy and commander.
