Oh, the 1911s are solid, I actually wouldn't mind one of those. But a lot of guys with Milleniums and 24/7s were cracking and breaking lock blocks after multiple mag burns.

Granted, most people will never do that with a handgun in a defensive situation, or any situation for that matter, so it's not that huge an issue for a lot of folks who buy Taurus semis. But I can get more overbuilt guns for the same price (like the old P-series DA/SA Rugers) or for a bit more land a better gun overall.

If it's for serious use and not just a range toy, there isn't such a thing as overbuilt. But I would much rather put my life on a Glock/XD/1911 than a Taurus any day.

I've been happy with all my taurus semis, iv had 0 problems with any of them and they all get used regularly and have had hundreds of rounds trough each. Taurus and s&w were once sister manufacturers and shared information on their guns that's why the pt1911 and s&w's 1911 are almost identical. Taurus bought a plant from Beretta, the deal also included the tools, plans and workforce to build the 92 hence the pt92. I think one of taurus strong selling points is also one of peoples biggest turnoffs, people see the lower price tag ( they machine all parts in-house ) and assume the their quality is of lower standard, I'm not saying they are a top quality firearm but they are made well. From the stories PW has from Cooper, it sounds like it's not entirely just assumptions. Granted, that kind of hard use isn't commonly seen, even in the real world.

I wouldn't mind a TCP for a pocket backup gun to be sure. Just wouldn't want to beat it with hundreds of rounds in a weekend, mag dump after mag dump.

Cooper? Nah, I never had the privilege to converse with the man. And the PT1911 and maybe some of the newer Taurus handguns are solid. But here's a post from James on another forum I frequent.

Another broken Taurus....I know you guys think I make this stuff up.

Broken Locking Block on the only Taurus Pistol I think is decent the PT-92:

Yes, that says "Another". He has a few threads on the Milleniums and 24/7s.

Moving this back to the firearms...,

Thinking about teaching myself duracoating. Biggest problem has been figuring out everything needed. LCW sells kits of solid colors, but I've heard mixed reviews on the sprayers they come with.

Anyone have more experience on it to share? I'd be starting simple and cheap obviously, so it's not the end of the world if it doesn't go well.

If the tools are too expensive, I may just forget it. But it would be interesting to try my hand at it. Looking for single color type stuff, not really looking into camo or patterns.

Eh, I'd probably just do a few coats of Krylon of I were looking for anything other than what the rifle comes with.
