Wondering what people think of both guns. I like the look and feel of the Alpha Black and has similiar internals as the Tippmann 98(if not exactly the same) but is it worth the loss of upgradability?

I personally own the Alpha Black and it's pretty cool. The reason why i got it was a $20 e trigger included, i just couldn't help myself. :D

98c

The alpha black is nice if you're on a budget and want the milsim look of the m-4. If I was I'd probably purchase it. My biggest hangup about it is that the parts are apparently cast in China. The fact that the USArmy puts it out is a bit confusing.

The 98c is a little friendlier to customize into whatever you want to carry. Completely made in the US.

Operation is about the same.

The made in China thing I well admitt is a valid concern (i don't like to mention it but my first AB was broken when i got it, so I had to swap it out at the store but my second one is solid).

This actually reminds me alot of the X7 vs A5 scenario

There's nothing wrong with the Alpha Black. It's a solid gun. I've held it, I've cycled its action. It's quality. Just as good if not better than the 98. And the accessories that come with the Tactical edition are good. It's a LOT of gun for the money. If I was buying a new gun, I'd get this. It's an all-in-one gun, not a money pit.

There isn't really a loss in upgradability. They all have access to the same modifications that actually enhance performance - a well made barrel, consistent air source and a spring pack. Aside from that everything is mostly all personalization and comfort alterations.

Between the two I personally would prefer the 98. Internally they are essentially identical. The 98 comes in a more practical and more efficient shell. However, in the end it's what you're comfortable with. The Alpha black can be made to look a good deal more like a real gun. *Edited* it uses 98 threads.

Actually it uses 98 threads. The early information we received was wrong. I had a guy at the store take the barrel off and verify this for me.

It does use 98 threads. I put a smart parts progresseive barrel on mine.

P.S: Fisher Price marker would be hysterical!

My friend owned both and I've played with both. I'm new so don't really account my opinion into this topic, but the Alpha was cool and all but its basically already fully customized.. I'm not sure about you but I don't like that. With the 98 you can get upgrades that fit your play sytle.

I have an alpha black and have a good amount of experience with the 98c. The alpha black is a great gun, but theres hardly anything you can do to help it fit your playing style. I almost regret it instead of a 98c because now I have to get a new gun if I want to shoot full auto. But don't get me wrong, if you only want semi auto then the alpha black kicks the crap out of the 98c. It is about what suits your playing style mainly.

I would rater get the Custom. I've never fired the Alpha, but I have held it. Most of it is made of plastic. The stock easily falls off, and it will frequently get stuck in the same position.

The 98c resale is terrible, but you can customize them so much, that you can use the same marker for years. I did for awhile. I customized it numeral times, until I went pump. I still have it, though. Anybody looking to buy one?
